Even at Oilprice they are stating the obvious. No methane regulations in the US "complicates" things for the EU. "The repeal may complicate U.S.-EU energy trade, as the EU’s methane emissions regulations could make U.S. LNG exports non-compliant." Not that complicated. US LNG is dirty.

This article contains a rather large error which appears with no source or explanation. "Most major oil and gas companies do not release enough methane to trigger the fee" Really? How do you know? Did they tell you that? And if so, why would they oppose the fee?

"LNG is a severely polluting energy source. Research continues to demonstrate the significant climate impact of LNG, especially when derived from fracked shale gas, due to leaked methane – a potent greenhouse gas – and the energy-intensive nature of its extraction and transportation"

“We're seeing neighborhoods go out into what used to be called nowhere land,” Skinner said. “And as they grow, they're running into old abandoned wells and they are not plugged, or they may have been plugged, but they haven't been plugged properly because they were plugged a hundred years ago..."

“The No. 1 concern is groundwater contamination,” Wight said. “Also, this well is adjacent to the Imperial reservoir, which impacts downstream.” Wight is no stranger to the issue of leaking wells. He has dealt with many on his neighboring 20,000-acre cattle ranch....'

Only in Texas, a bird sanctuary across the street from an LNG terminal.

"The new EU Methane Regulation places further obligations on the fossil gas, oil, and coal industry in Europe to control their methane emissions. It prohibits avoidable and routine flaring, and reduces flaring and venting to exceptional situations such as emergencies or technical malfunctions."

Quite a headline. "trump-style climate rule bonfire" They know they can't import US LNG if they have any real regulations about methane emissions. So they want to burn them up in a "climate rule bonfire"

The EU is preparing financial support for the dirty US LNG industry which requires ignoring the science, something that is now official government policy in the US that apparently the EU leadership wants to emulate.

As we have argued, methane emissions form oil and gas are occurring because it helps them make more money. "Indeed, we have found that if companies were to follow harmonised standards, the cost of offsetting their methane emissions would represent a sizeable portion of their earnings."

@txsharon.bsky.social and Miguel were recently in Japan talking about LNG and documenting more methane emissions at LNG import terminals. Japanese banks keep funding more LNG expansion while trying to pretend it is clean energy. Join the webinar to learn more.

Today, the #BigOilBullies trial begins. Big Oil company Energy Transfer is suing @greenpeaceusa.bsky.social for $300,000,000 in an abusive lawsuit attempting to silence our free speech and right to protest through intimidation. #WeWillNotBeSilenced ➡️ GreenpeaceOnTrial.org

“It perplexes me how it says that all these pollutants exceed, in layman’s terms, acceptable levels, and yet you’re going to prove it and say it’s safe and it’s not going to be any harm to anyone out there or the environment,” Broussard said.

Horror story from @kiley.bsky.social at ICN . "The processing allows companies to accept highly toxic fracking wastewater as long as they claim they “immobilize” it. “How are they immobilizing it? Well, they’re putting it into kitty litter, they’re putting it into sawdust...." Radioactive waste

“This means that instead of reducing methane produced by this dairy... the site actually took that manure, held it in three, 1-million-gallon digesters, heated and mixed it to produce far more methane,” Richwine wrote. “It then allowed that gas to leak into the atmosphere for seven months.”

“For years we’ve been told oil and gas is good for our kids because it funds our schools, completely ignoring that our kids are being poisoned at school and at home by oil and gas pollution,” Evans said later The classic Faustian Bargain.

Compressor stations are a big source of methane emissions and air pollution in the system of oil and gas distribution. This is another one that would will put residents at risk for a project that will be used to export LNG to other countries which will raise prices for the US public, too.

Nice to see Bangladesh employing science to address the issues of methane emissions from rice production. Perhaps other countries could embrace a science-led approach?

The Permian is playing a dangerous game. The more wastewater they inject into the ground, the more earthquakes they have. The earthquakes are causing damage to the oil and gas infrastructure. This time it was a pipeline rupture.

Politicians in Pennsylvania wants it to be an oil and gas sacrifice zone too. "the Act is designed to give states flexibility when plugging abandoned oil wells which can cause water contamination, methane emissions, and seep pollutants to their immediate areas."

"Natural gas and propane — long considered contributors to climate change — could soon be redefined in Indiana as lawmakers push to lump the gasses in with solar, wind and other non-fossil fuels so they also qualify for state and federal green energy funding." Denial has worked. So they keep at it.

Natural gas may be invisible but it isn't good for your health. “The TCEQ agreed that Granbury residents sufficiently raised the question of whether air pollution from the proposed plant could harm their health and livestock,” said Kamil Cook

Questions on the TX regulatory situation? "After years of deliberations, the technical staff of the Texas Railroad Commission recommended that regulators deny a permit to dispose of oilfield waste in the small town of Paxton. But...the elected commissioners voted 2-1 to approve the permit anyway"

I've spent a lot of time observing oil and gas operations--nearly 30 years. During that time, I've met and talked with many workers, some hostile toward me but most relatively friendly. I have learned so much from them. Like when I say the technology to capture methane doesn't work, they agree.

The EU has a problem. Trump is threatening them and demanding they buy more LNG from the US. But the EU has regulations that require imported LNG to have low methane emissions and the US LNG is very high emissions LNG. The science is clear. The politics are not.

It looks like one of the oil industry's organizations has decided to finally take methane emissions seriously. They've started a library with 150 resources!! That should do it.

Produced water from oil production is toxic. The offshore oil industry in the US has an easy solution for disposal. "For every barrel of oil extracted, about a barrel and a half worth of produced water is dumped back into the Gulf, a staggering volume of highly carcinogenic liquid."

Last year we released a report urging the state of Texas to improve air quality monitoring across the state. No monitors is a good way to hide the problem. Look what happens when people monitor the impacts of gas cooking. “When you get real data, you can’t ignore it,” Zuniga said.

“The aim was not to identify specific events, where methane is only released for a short period of time. Instead, the aim was to identify sources that emit almost continuously during the four years that were analysed." aka "the worst of the worst" Who made the list? The Permian.

What it is like to be an oil and gas sacrifice zone... “I mean, nobody cares about West Texas. It's just heartbreaking,” said Ty Edwards, the district’s manager.

Cleaning up PFAS is incredibly difficult & expensive. Better not to let that genie out of the bottle in the first place? Watershed's @leanahosea.bsky.social joined @angelawalkernews.bsky.social to discuss forever chemicals linked to cancers, liver & kidney disease. youtu.be/H2Oxh56a9lc?...

“Latino families, especially those living near oil & gas operations in places like East Texas & the Permian Basin, face daily exposure to toxic emissions from flares and leaks,” Meixueiro said “This pollution increases their risk of respiratory illness, cancer, and other severe health conditions”

Today, Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba announced a deal to increase imports of US LNG. But financing US LNG poses serious risks for Japan, harms communities near LNG projects, and jeopardizes a liveable future. bit.ly/42MhhUl

Elected officials and their communities want clean air, less methane waste, and forward momentum on climate action. Repealing EPA's Waste Emissions Charge is a step backward. Read our statement. #cutmethane www.westernleaders.org/wec-cra-stat...
