To get a sense of some of the specific types of grant research being affected at universities by the anti-DEI McCarythism here is excellent student reporting with details…

Remembering John Lewis on his birthday (February 21, 1940 – July 17, 2020) #GoodTrouble 💙🕊

Ok, I'm doing a version of this thread for 🧪 who are new to political conditions where info security is a safety issue: 1. Don't make public lists of people who are engaging in acts of resistance 2. Be weary of calls to advertise acts of subversion 3. Don't live post resistance meetings

If Patel’s confirmation scares you and you’re worried about the FBI being used to wage war and terrorize American citizens, just ask Black people for advice, they’ve been dealing with it for decades

I've been writing a series of essays for PBS on men whose style I admire. The latest is about James Baldwin, a man who knew how to sing through clothes. www.pbs.org/wnet/america...

Thousands of federal workers performing essential functions—from food safety to forestry and fire management to nuclear safeguards—have been illegally fired. The Department of Justice has abandoned more than 150 years of independence. The president has claimed that he is a king. It is day 31.

This is my “daughter of a Black Panther breakfast program volunteer” coming out but anyone who tells you that you have to be public about all your resistance activity should immediately be under suspicion for being an op, or being under the influence of an op

The firings going on now would never be ordered by someone who understood what it's like to learn how keep complicated underfunded systems working and to take pride in that and in working for the public good. Knowing you're never going to get rich or famous doing that, and not caring.

Useful thread on using alt text for images of text.

This is why there’s been so much silence as Black history and Black books are being purged, and integration efforts dismantled. Many Democrats think the purges are valid and necessary. “Candidly, the attack on over-the-top wokeism was a valid attack."

Read the full thread.

Everyone in the Trump coalition voted for someone to get got. Most of them didn’t realize that they were that someone to someone else.

More people are realizing folks won't share without alt text so they're putting pretty useless stuff in alt text for shares. Please click and check

Hating pronouns so hard that you gave the guy from Twitter access to your IRS info 😊

The thing is people freaked out by “diversity,” are mad if even one of us appears. Mad our credentials look just as good (or better) than theirs. Freaked out by the questions it raises. It’s not rational. Students looked slightly different, profs looked even less different, and they just melted down

“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my fucking firing. I make $50k a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.”

Calling RFK, Jr. a psychopath is really unhelpful. Especially in connection with an EO going after effective mental health care. Like... the layers of sanism are a lot.

So wrong and so arrogant.

The people this season of Love is Blind. YIKES. The white guy who “just stays out of politics” and who didn’t vote. #LIB

All of this petty bullshit is so hateful. Gift link; no subscription needed. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/13/n...

Breaking: The Senate just voted to confirm vaccine conspiracy theorist RFK Jr. to be Health and Human Services Secretary, 52-48. All Republicans — except for Mitch McConnell — voted for Kennedy. ALL Democrats voted against.

Apparently I’m a robot, too. My excessive use of em dashes—I’m always interrupting myself—is a writing tick I can’t let go of.

On DEI in postsecondary education: None of you will realize what your “DEI”/student affairs colleagues are doing until they are already gone. Resumé reviews. Tutoring. Connecting students with internships and food and mentors. My coworkers and I do 1000 invisible tasks each day.
