Ugaritic expression of the day: ʕbd dgn ("worker of grain", or, theoretically, "worker/servant of Dagan"; ... it's a pun, you see, since the pic shows me writing about Baal, Dagan's son, for my upcoming Dragon book, whilst partaking of a scone – a grain product extraordinaire).

Fondly remembering that time I translated Schleicher's Fable into Sanskrit, Greek, Latin and Hittite as an intellectual exercise to celebrate Schleicher's birthday 12 years ago.

Had a weird dream, in which I tried to argue that Hebrew lāšôn ("tongue"), and ultimately Proto-Afro-Asiatic *las-, had at some point had a lateral fricative, which would, by some extremely convoluted scenario, have proved a relationship with Indo-European *dn̥ǵʰweh₂ ("tongue").
