Here is my top, dead serious recommendation for holidaying with children: Go somewhere with friends who love and are good with kids but don’t have their own/theirs are grown. We will camp in a field with these friends because they ALWAYS go “we’ll take the kids you go sleep!”

Went here and everyone said they knew you????

We are halfway to our destination and onto second outfits for both children

In 2018, I realized that the emoji section in Because Internet needed more on gesture, so I asked @superlinguo.bsky.social what to read for an overview of the gesture literature She was like whew, tbh I wish that existed Now she's finally written me that overview 💚 (and you can read it too!)

LOOK AT HER GOOOOOO

you know those jokes about packing for holidays like “what if I crap myself every single day of this trip?” okay well I’m currently packing for a weekend away with a toddler and an infant and no laundry machine, and the maths sure is mathsing

This is what it comes down to in terms of how we actually function in society: not “what is a woman?”, but “how do you know I’m a woman?” Nobody has ever asked to inspect my gametes or chromosomes. Presentation is literally all anyone is going on.

Anyone out there who knows about plants? The front garden is about 30% violets but the leaves and stems have suddenly developed these weird yellow spots on the underside. Should I be worried or can I ignore it?

A good piece- particularly relevant for GLAM and other orgs that heavily utilise volunteers.

There is a world of understated hilarity in this sentence from an excavation report: "The layer has been churned extensively by rodents, some of which were encountered in the layer during the course of the 1990 excavation."

Chris Van Hollen flying down to El Salvador and refusing to leave until he got in a room with Kilmar Abrego Garcia blows up every other “well what do you expect them to do?” defense for elected Democrats

i have no doubt that senator van hollen was genuinely concerned for the safety and welfare of abrego garcia BUT ALSO this is what i'm talking about when i say POLITICAL AMBITION. van hollen may well make himself a household name and nationally recognized political figure with this move

Legit the best thing any Dem has done to date in response to Trump and it happened because he cared more about serving his constituents than public polling about immigration.

the only biological sex is IVF send skeet

tbh I'm not the biggest fan of the "harry potter is shitty anyway" talk because of the implication that it's fine to support the works of hateful people if they meet some quality bar (especially since art is subjective anyway)

This is why we closed out our last American bank account and credit card. I really feel for people who have no other option because it's about to get real ugly out there

And here we are.

These Democratic senators need to hear from their constituents right now. Urge them to reject the GOP’s voter suppression bill and protect our freedom to vote. KELLY (AZ) WARNOCK (GA) PETERS (MI) SHAHEEN (NH) HASSAN (NH) CORTEZ MASTO (NV) ROSEN (NV) Call your senators: indivisible.org/reso...

do i know anyone in london who has a spare room? I want to travel there in June and do some research for my book (i know this is probably asking a lot)

I made the NYT lamb shoulder with greens and beans and the lamb isn’t finished cooking yet but the greens and beans are so good I’m eating them with a fork

More museums/institutions/public spaces with the guts, the principles, the moral fortitude to say: yeah, no, bigots not welcome here

I'm personally offended by the idea that I need an LLM to help me overuse em dashes

I have /no/ idea how this will shake out in the current environment but in even a semi-sane world, this could change a LOT about how the internet as it is today works.

Another productive lunch-break (This time with @ecpritchard.bsky.social, and an unintended collaboration with the council - they'd already done the white) If @oldenoughtosay.bsky.social, @bookllyfr.bsky.social, or anyone else spots any more - we've got leftover paint if you want it!
