We've finally defeated cancel culture. Now people only get fired for criticizing the government

Flutter's Sky Betting and Gaming illegally collected the data of a gambling-addicted customer to profile him for marketing purposes online, a High Court judge ruled today. By @dzuidijk.bsky.social www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

“The lawsuit was filed in the San Jose, California, federal court on behalf of LinkedIn Premium customers who sent or received InMail messages, and whose private information was disclosed to third parties for AI training before Sept. 18.”

DHS has terminated the memberships of everyone on its advisory committees. This includes several cyber committees, like CISA's advisory panel and the Cyber Safety Review Board, which was investigating Salt Typhoon. That review is "dead," person familiar says. www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

Some of us have been warning about this and calling for anti-SLAPP laws (both federal and state) for years and years and years. And I'm not stopping now. Defamation law has been so widely abused to chill speech and so few people know it.

There’s some kind of career optimization coaching bro on Twitter who has translated Remains of the Day into a business book parable webinar presentation and it might be the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen

This is also a missing data problem because the Cabinet Office release only covers central government. Most FOIs go outside central government, and so we don't have high quality information on most of the system.

Only 27% of FOI requests were granted in full in the UK, according to the most recent government data (for July-Sep 2024), down from 32% the previous year. www.gov.uk/government/s...

Every time I check Facebook it's increasingly irrelevant to me. Here's my feed today: 1. Post from a contact 2. Ad 3. Post from group I don't follow 4. Ad 5. People you may know 6. Post from group I don't follow 7. Ad 8. Post from a contact 9. Reels 10. Ad

Between the AI garbage filling your feed and this I don't understand why anyone would still use Facebook

Reputation launderers, behold! SEO gaming for affiliate marketing was already digital slop, but this sales video does an excellent job of showing how it's pivoted to generative AI slop www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsKo...

Important deep dive into cops' "outrageously dystopian" use of facial recognition by @douglasmac.bsky.social @davidovalle.bsky.social @aaronschaffer.com. A wrongfully arrested father of four was jailed for *16 months* before his charges were dropped: www.washingtonpost.com/business/int...

I saw some LA-based wellness/woo accounts in IG talk about ripping out their smart meters so looked up why and.... I despair

A fun thing you can do is pop onto Zillow, look at all rentals in a random chunk of the greater LA area, sort by recently changed, then check every price increase to see if it was more than 10%. If there's no obvious changes (didn't go from unfurnished to furnished) then report it for price gouging.

I really, really don't want to do this, but let's do a bit (just a LITTLE BIT) of fact checking about what Zuck said on the Joe Rogan podcast, because this is something I not only followed closely, but also spent time *talking to the actual people at Meta who dealt with this* which WAS NOT ZUCK.
