Hey, I'm going to do this, and I hope you will too. Not because I think a one day pause will be a devastating blow, but because coordinated action takes practice, and if you don't do the small stuff, you will have a harder time gearing up for the big stuff.

my professional opinion is that broccoli has no place in veggie cream cheese schmear

one of the funnier things to happen in my dating life is when a guy in college told me like a month into dating that we needed to have a serious conversation. the serious conversation was: he didn’t like my prospective baby names (something i’d shared in a group of friends months before we dated)

MTC March Reading: in association with our upcoming forum on romance, we will be reading Alexis Hall's A LADY FOR A DUKE, a queer historical romance. Our romance forum explores what romance, as a genre, offers its readers. How better to dive into that question than to read some romance ourselves!

On Friday, February 21st at 4pm, @marymullen.bsky.social and I are leading a workshop on writing groups. (This event is under the auspices of the 1819 social/ @ksaacomm.bsky.social) It will be pretty fun and very useful, just like writing groups are! Here's the info, including registration link--

every time i finish a dissertation chapter rough draft i get myself a gift. for chapter 1, i got a le creuset braiser. for chapter 2, i had a 7 course michelin star meal with my besties. for chapter 3, im going to see paul mescal in streetcar named desire 💫

And what’s more: I am 32 years old. I am so young. I am just starting to blossom in my life. I have worked so hard. I won’t cede the prime of my life to these motherfuckers. Not when I have been blessed with the resources to not have to.

Next newsletter on wheresyoured.at I believe, outside of ChatGPT, that the combined generative AI industry is smaller than Pokémon Go at its peak, with apps like Gemini and Copilot having less than 20 million monthly active users. These unprofitable, unsustainable apps are also deeply unpopular.

“If by [fascism] we understand the ... abolition of the remnants of the constitutional state ... then, as far as I’m concerned, one can speak with complete justification of an incipient fascism... American fascism will probably be the first which comes to power by democratic means.“ —Angela Y. Davis

NEW EPISODE: POETRY RYAN RUBY (@ryanruby.bsky.social) argues that this indefinable thing humans have been doing well nigh forever is better understood as a medium than a form. hightheory.net/2025/02/20/p... @sevenstories.bsky.social #booksky #academicsky #podsky #poetrysky #books #podcasts

taught my therapist about cruel optimism today ✌️😘

saw Angela Davis & Ta-Nehisi Coates in conversation tonight. too much staggering insight to recap here but. one small thing i’m taking away is that if Angela Davis has hope in our present moment, i certainly can too.

My friend @thaliarw.bsky.social has been applying her abilities as one of the best writers alive to what it means to be trans in the United States at this moment. Please read and share. "A criticism need not be an attack: it can also be an invitation." open.substack.com/pub/thaliawi...

I have new letter out about the enshittification of social media, the pleasure of following your shiny magpie creative interests, and the pressure to create an author presence on all these online platforms which continue to decay and degrade around us. jdscott.substack.com/p/in-the-age...

Every semester, one of the most fruitful lessons I teach is the “graded discussion”—it is a pedagogical exercise that is beginning-to-end student-authored, and it is always a surprising and invigorating opportunity for me to grow as a teacher/reader as well. #pedagogy Here’s how I do it:

An incredible piece on Mark Haber's LESSER RUINS as well as his earlier two novels. "Few writers address mediocrity directly, I suspect, because writing requires attention, worry, and admitting to worrying about being mediocre is embarrassing, even shameful. " - Ryan Lackey

LIFE IS NOT ABOUT BEING EVER FASTER AND “MORE PRODUCTIVE”!!! WE LIVE IN A WORLD OF BOUNTY, IT IS A LIE FROM THE CAPITALISTS—WHO WANT TO RING EVER MORE VALUE OUT OF EVERY SECOND OF YOUR LIFE UNTIL YOU ARE MADE REDUNDANT, DIE OR BOTH—THAT EVERYTHING MUST HAPPEN CHEAPER, FASTER AND SHITTIER!
