Fun fact! Snails and clams often preserve their own larval shells at the very tip of the shell, and these can be studied directly from there. There ARE fossil glochidial larvae of unionids (freshwater mussels) but they're rare - the oldest ones I've heard of are Miocene (~23Mya)
