The evening meal included barley and oat dumplings, chopped hazelnut salad, and barley and beet soup filled with corn dumplings. Back and forth the delicious fare went from paw to paw amid banter, laughter, and animated conversation.

Note on words: "Contemplate" and "meditate" have sort of traded places. "Meditatio" had meant "think about things" (as in Descartes), while "contemplatio" was effectively an exercise in *not thinking.* Contemplatio was Latin for Greek "theoria," which meant pilgrimage and, eventually, meditation.

This is the problem with communicating across time, like for example we currently don’t bother to say what we mean when we say “god” in most theological texts. That complex knowledge is communicated across many vectors thru many years to religious seekers, but never all at once.
