It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our friend and colleague Dr. Atul Butte. A hui hou Atul. We will miss you.

For those of you who may not have known him, Dr. Atul Butte, a pioneer in informatics, was the winner of the 2024 Morris F. Collen award, a pinnacle achievement in our field, as part of his storied career. His passing is a major loss to us all. RIP Dr. Butte #MedSky

My favourite bit about the MAHA report is that every section with dot points comes back as ~100% AI generated and almost all of them contain hallucinations. None of these references really supports the argument here, and the actual statements are also a bit contradictory.

See, I always love it when a film throws a bunch of money at a couple of academics like this. Fuck yeah Professor Adler, go hog wild in the set shop being uptight about the color of the stone walls

Happy to announce that our study on the latent cis-regulatory potential of mobile DNA is officially published! TLDR: mobile DNA in bacteria (Insertion Sequences) have a proclivity for evolving new promoters. At least 25% of them probably already encode functional promoters as well.

Absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of ARTIC2 - a £5.5M 5 year project funded by @wellcometrust.bsky.social to build on the ARTIC approach of low-cost, globally accessible genome sequencing for surveillance of outbreaks, epidemics and endemic diseases: www.birmingham.ac.uk/news/2025/am...

Superb to meet @omicsomics.bsky.social at the #nanporeconf today!

Just to be clear, this is a violation of the fundamental ethical principle in clinical trial design called "equipoise." Equipoise means that no-one is exposed to excess risk just to test the therapy. That's specifically *why* vaccine trials don't use placebo arms. Ethical violation as POLICY.

HHS Secretary Kennedy's company, CHD, published the video of the Texas doctor treating patients while he has visible measles symptoms—it's some sort of promotional video. More below in the Unbiased Science newsletter #medsky

I ask sincerely, what the *hell* kind of letter is this for the Acting US Attorney in DC to send to the editor of a medical journal?

1. This is so poorly written that the sentence that is -- I think -- supposed to convey a semi-veiled legal threat is incomprehensible. 2. I'm jealous of whichever lawyer gets to write the response.
