New preprint! Thrilled to share my latest work with @esfinn.bsky.social -- "Sensory context as a universal principle of language in humans and LLMs" osf.io/preprints/ps...

🧠✨How do we rebuild our memories? In our new study, we show that hippocampal ripples kickstart a coordinated expansion of cortical activity that helps reconstruct past experiences. We recorded iEEG from patients during memory retrieval... and found something really cool 👇(thread)

Check out our new study by @atabk.bsky.social! He tweaked a word list memory task to have hidden rules at encoding, which shifted and created “event boundaries.” People recalled pre-boundary words more, and post-boundary words less. Other fun bits in the paper include a reinforcement learning model!

We were blown away by the public response to our findings that the infant brain can store memories. Many people wrote to share with us their first memories. To help us capture these reports, we created a short, anonymous survey. We hope you might also consider taking it. Please share with others! 🧠🧪

Job alert 🚨 We’re hiring a full-time research staff assistant at Columbia starting Fall 2025! The position will focus on several topics in the lab, including the cognitive & neural mechanisms underlying dynamic social perception using fMRI & natural language processing. Link: freemanlab.org/ra2025

Very happy to announce that our paper “Sensory Horizons and the Functions of Conscious Vision” is now out as a target article in BBS!! @smfleming.bsky.social and I present a new theory of the evolution and functions of visual consciousness. Article here: doi.org/10.1017/S014.... A (long) thread 🧵

is anyone working on cortical waves (traveling, rotational, etc) looking for a faculty position? we'll soon be hiring in Korea, at our center where multiple labs (ephys, optical imaging, human neuroimaging) are interested in collaborating w/ theoreticians pls DM/email for informal inquiries 🧠📈 🧠💻

What can AI teach us about how the brain understands language? In today's podcast, we explore how LLMs are helping neuroscientists study how we process language with Stanford psychologist and faculty scholar Laura Gwilliams @lauragwilliams.bsky.social. neuroscience.stanford.edu/news/what-ch...

Very cool paper showing that Crows can spot the odd shape out of a set where all other shapes are similar. @scinews.bsky.social www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... 🐦‍⬛ 🐦‍⬛ 🐦‍⬛ 🐦‍⬛

Excited that we are recruiting for a new postdoctoral program in Cognitive, Computational, and Systems Neuroscience at #WashU! Get in touch if you have questions! sites.wustl.edu/systemsneuro...

It seems as good a time as any to share that I've accepted a new job as Lecturer of Cognitive Neuroscience (equivalent to assistant prof) at the University of Manchester in the UK! I dusted off the blog to say a bit more about why I'm excited for this move: tomdonoghue.github.io/ms/2025/04/1...

As someone directly affected by this, let me be clear: I'd rather lose my job because Harvard chose to fight than keep my job and see a generation of white supremacists parade its corpse around like a war trophy.

For people interested in the spinal cord, there is now an open postdoc position at UCL working on OP-MEG of the spinal cord, with Prof. Sven Bestmann. Apply now! www.ucl.ac.uk/work-at-ucl/...

Excited to share a preprint from work with @rewaniw.bsky.social and Serra Favila, where we show that visual cortex responses during memory retrieval are spatially tuned to the locations of objects previously seen only once It's an early draft — feedback is welcome! See 🧵 for more #neuroskyence 1/7

We're inviting proposals for the ✨Broadening Participation in Cognitive Science initiative✨, with grants of up to $5,000 to support events or projects that increase accessibility and inclusion in #CogSci Deadline: June 13 🗓️ Learn more and apply at cognitivesciencesociety.org/broadening-p...

check it outtttt abstract submissions are open!!

🔆 Announcement time!! 🔆 In Spring 2026, I will be joining the NYU Psychology department as an Assistant Professor! My lab will study the computational cognitive science of moral judgment and how we can use that knowledge to build AI systems that are safe and aligned with human values.

Are you interested in research experience before applying to PhD programs? Or just want to learn more about cognitive science? Consider joining my lab as a lab manager (joint w/the Griffiths Lab). We will begin reviewing applications one week from today: cognition.princeton.edu/news/2025/op...

We're excited to share that our lab is hiring for the position of Lab Manager/Research Assistant. A great opportunity to join our lab! You can find full details and apply via the link below: www.jobs.ac.uk/job/DMN515/r... Please feel free to share this with anyone who might be interested!

Incredibly cool and innovative work by @elbusch.bsky.social

Why do we not remember being a baby? One idea is that the hippocampus, which is essential for episodic memory in adults, is too immature to form individual memories in infancy. We tested this using awake infant fMRI, new in @science.org #ScienceResearch www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

I very much enjoyed this fascinating real world memory paper-- congrats @barense.bsky.social and team! Makes me rethink my use of the term "naturalistic memory" when I'm actually referring to (fictional) movies and narratives 😂! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I’m planning to hire an RA for my new lab at the University of Miami (www.jam-lab.org) to start August 1st! Please feel free to get in touch or share with anyone who may be interested! umiami.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UMCareerStaff/job/Coral-Gables-FL/Research-Associate---Psychology_R100085344-1

LLMs have shown impressive performance in some reasoning tasks, but what internal mechanisms do they use to solve these tasks? In a new preprint, we find evidence that abstract reasoning in LLMs depends on an emergent form of symbol processing arxiv.org/abs/2502.20332 (1/N)
