A piece about today’s negotiations, but also very much a piece about how hard Ukraine has fought for their sovereignty & territory. I sure hope we defend them against Russia’s land grab.

It continues to amaze me that those who know & have suffered under Putin know who he is & what he does, while too many Americans still believe we can “strike a deal.”

Another piece I wrote for the @thebulwark.bsky.social on yesterday’s negotiation with Russia. www.thebulwark.com/p/we-are-neg...

Hegseth orders military to draw up plans for 40% total budget cuts over the next fives years, 8% per year. Exponentially worse than sequestration that crippled the military in 2011. wapo.st/4hHV3Yt

He’s threatening to fire federal employees who don’t respond to his email by tomorrow. He has already fired employees with impeccable performance reviews. Promotions will be based on responses to his email rather than detailed performance evaluations by their direct supervisor.

Musk & his X Cult: What’s the big deal? You should be able to respond to my email to justify your job performance! Just a bunch of libs complaining about it for no reason! We own the libs again! Donald Trump’s Cabinet Officials to employees: Yeah, don’t respond to that email.

“The thing Trump and Musk value most of all is money. Their entire regime is best understood as a criminal junta whose end goal is to redirect the wealth of the nation into their own pockets. They are running a kleptocracy, and they’ve figured out that facism is actually the quickest path to riches”

If you’re cheering for a South African sociopath to fuck over US military veterans then you should probably stop with that America first bullshit.

🇵🇱🇺🇸 President Duda waited outside Trump's door for 1.5 hours to talk to him for 10 minutes, according to Polish media.

We had friends & allies around the world based on alliances & relationships that were built over many decades. In one month, Trump has torched them all. Now our friends are Putin, Orban, the crypto scammer in Argentina, and the guy in El Salvador offering us mercenary prisons.

Tillis is up for reelection in NC next year.

I think the implications here are painfully and terrifyingly obvious.

Here’s my prediction for DOGE: Whatever minimal amount of money it may possibly save in the short term will be far exceeded by the ultimate cost of fixing all of the problems it creates. It’s already an epic failure.

Dear Dems. This is a reminder that Donald Trump rescinded the ethics rules preventing gifts to executive branch employees. Now would be a good time to propose legislation formalizing the prevention into a law Time to do things that make him react to you. apnews.com/article/trum...

Hegseth says firing of top military lawyers was about making sure "they don't exist to be roadblocks to anything that happens."

"'We’re bringing attention to what’s happening to the parks, which are every American’s properties,' said Gavin Carpenter, a maintenance mechanic with Yosemite and military veteran who supplied the flag and helped hang it." www.sfchronicle.com/outdoors/art...

Janet Mills was elected the first woman DA in ME history. Elected 1st woman AG in ME. Won election to state House, reelected 3x. Then 1st woman Gov - won by 20 points. Then reelected in 2022 by 13 points. In other words, far more popular in ME than Trump will ever be.

Himes: "It just looks like an episode of The Sopranos. 'Give us your minerals or we're not gonna help you fight a bloody butcher.' I mean, is this really we want the greatest country in history to be known for -- some mafia thing? ... this president is standing with the bad guy"

Too simple to even try and cover his tracks.

BREAKING: In response to doctors' lawsuit, Judge John Bates, a George W. Bush appointee, orders CDC, NIH, and FDA to put back up websites and datasets cited by the doctors in their lawsuit as having been relied upon and pulled down without notice. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

"The core issue is that Musk and Trump are acting *as if* they hold absolute power, even though they do not," says @chrislhayes.bsky.social. "They are, in that sense, bluffing. But it's a bluff they want to turn into a new reality, one that destroys the American constitutional order."

This might be the most nakedly corrupt document I’ve seen on DOJ letterhead — and I wrote a history of Watergate!

At this point I genuinely don't think it's hyperbole to say that Elon Musk is functionally in charge of the US government. Perhaps not in specific policy areas - two bills or one on the hill, policy in the mideast. But certainly functional control of the state apparatus.

"It’s America’s worst aviation disaster since 2001. And it shows the danger of wantonly destroying a federal government whose functioning remains vital for, among other things, keeping air travelers safe."

Trump announces tariffs on Mexico, China, and Canada. Stock market immediately craters. Why doesn’t he understand that tariffs are passed on to the buyer - US!

So if the Trump Admin is saying that Biden hired a bunch of unqualified people in the FAA, why should anyone fly in US airspace right now or buy a plane ticket?

Idgaf I’m still fighting for guaranteed healthcare. Aspiration is the answer. Not just “we’re not the bad guys.” We need something more meaningful than that. I want a future worth fighting for. They have no vision. We do. Lean into our strengths and knock them out. 👊🏽

Let me say this clearly. The tariffs are a money grab. Less money in the hands of the American people due to the new 25% tax on goods. More money to distribute to his cronies in the form of tax cuts. See how it works?

It’s pretty impressive when you’re just 27 years old and your words single-handedly tank the stock market.

You tell 'em, Pete!

I was not shocked. bsky.app/profile/atru...

Just so we're all clear, the Mexican government is not threatening war against the United States. Our gov are the bad guys here.

tbh I think it’s more of a whiney, snowflakey individualism, better known as narcissism, that has infected the land. It’s not rugged at all.

www.cnn.com/2025/01/31/p... FBI agents who worked on January 6 and Trump investigations are expected to be fired Friday

@politico.com lays out 4 ways Trump could grab a third term: use a proxy; change the Constitution; ignore it; or defy it. Guess who has already tried out all four: Putin. www.politico.com/news/magazin...

It would be difficult to imagine a scene more thoroughly illustrative of the advanced moral decay of today’s Republican Party than what transpired this week, especially when one measures Trump’s actions against those of the president after whom DCA is named.

seeing hegseth back on fox really drives home that the infotainment complex is washington’s new revolving door

Trump is now firing FBI agents who worked on J6 cases for doing their jobs. www.cnn.com/2025/01/31/p...

guys, it's happening

They're such hypocrites.

New - Elon Musk aides lock government workers out of computer systems at US agency, sources say www.reuters.com/world/us/mus...

How could this not possibly violate a slew of federal laws?
