After Light Fades, our upcoming puzzler, is will be coming out later this year. It’s a true odyssey, an epic journey that challenges you with new puzzle concepts at every turn! Check out the demo on Steam

We've just updated the After Light Fades demo on Steam with some QoL improvements. If you love challenging puzzle games check it out! store.steampowered.com/app/1717940/...

"This game is situated somewhere close to me, even though the space I’m moving through is utterly alien." @jaymcastello.bsky.social observes how Chants of Sennaar connects parts of our world to create realistic-feeling languages:

I’m usually very polarized with games I play - I love them or don’t want to know them - but I’m having an interesting time with Metal Slug Tactics. It’s almost great but there’s a little bit of roughness permeating every moment of the experience. Hopefully they can patch it out!

We’ve updated our early access trailer for Dream of the Star Haven. Gives you a better feel for the sokobans and the UI might give you a clue about how the metroidvania aspects unfold youtu.be/DIx8I1acuGs

I think I'll always have a HUGE soft spot for games that are secretly mysteries full of Weird Puzzle Shit despite giving no such indication of this at first. Void Stranger is among the top. Disc Room reveals itself to be one. I think the first one I fell in love with was Dark Savior on Sega Saturn.

Dream of the Star Haven was nominated for South Australian Game of the Year! We didn't win in the end, but it's wonderful that our still-taking-shape early access experiment was able to strike a chord!

Had an amazing time over the weekend sharing a few of our games at the South Australian Game Exhibition. Our early access title Dream of the Star Haven was also nominated for local game of the year!

Indie devs, sometimes devs will ask in my DMs if I can share their newly-announced, newly-released, or other recent beat for their game, and I almost always do. About half of the indies I post is from devs specifically asked me to! Always feel free to reach out to people (incl. me!)

Joon Shining - the magical golf like platformer is on sale now at 40% off Beautiful and intensely difficult 🔮🌈🍃✨ Get it now on Steam store.steampowered.com/app/1552600/...

My fortune as read by Zachtronic’s Fortune’s Foundation

Updated Dream of the Star Haven on early access with the first egg puzzle sequence - a meta-mystery that spans the first person overworld and multiple sokoban puzzles steamcommunity.com/app/2696080

this actually is a subtle problem with narrative design in games in general, often leaning too heavily in "writing it in" instead of writing around it so the experience emerges from the game for the player instead

In the all-encompassing digital lifestyle of game designer it's nice to have something tangible once in a while (Lamplight Forest is our other name...long story) For Australian folks I'll be showing a new game at the SA Games Exhibition: Adelaide 7-8 Feb Details here www.sagameexhibition.com

I've been loving the Zachtronics Solitaire Collection lately! I'm usually into more dynamic games with progression, collectibles, etc, but it's been awesome to chill out and play something simple and contemplative with literally no progression - just a single round, win or lose, that's it

As with many things in the Orchid of Redemption stable, it's amazing how far a little foliage can go! Dream of the Star Haven's inner world is populated by these sokobans, where the secret language of the Star Haven creature is made manifest! #indiegame #puzzlegame #dreamofthestarhaven

Our new game is about an aging pelican who wants to fly up to the empyrean but it’s beak is too full. On one level it’s an allegory for redistribution of wealth, but it’s told through the gameplay experience of expressing love by preparing meals for people

Glitch Crystal Dungeon is great! Just played through the demo. It’s perfectly oddball and sweet with clever dynamics that send you exploring in all directions without you feeling lost store.steampowered.com/app/1876850/...

Had a great time with the Metro Gravity demo. I’ve experimented with creating gravity flipping mechanics many times and it’s always a big challenge, but Metro Gravity makes it look easy and does some very clever stuff with it

Just finished Skald, it’s a very excellent RPG with a truly intriguing personality! Perfect length at around 20 hours, and no grinding. Check it out!

Compassion is my watchword, “divide and conquer” is my enemy

Hey friends, I just lost my job—I’m looking for new work! See a thread of work below 🧵, or visit oldmanofthefire.com I’m an artist and programmer. As an art director I’ve lead art teams on projects for Netflix, Apple, Sony, and more. If you’d be so kind, please share this to get the word out!

Check out this super-genuine recent stream of After Light Fades. I love the relentless spirit of this and seeing how much mastery starts to unfold in such a relatively short space of time www.twitch.tv/videos/23585...

Finally got around to playing Skald - it’s immediately charming, full of secrets and intrigue It’s like if Ultima 7 gave you some context for what you’re doing, and had much better combat. But also it’s a lot more than that

3 of our amazing games are now available on the content creator platform Lurkit Joon Shining - magical golf-like After Light Fades - sokoban about love, grief and magic Dream of the Star Haven - giant-leap, gravity flipping, first person metroidvania www.lurkit.com/campaigns/jo...

So happy with how this is taking shape. The game itself seems to guiding me towards this idea of a spiritual relationship to food, but in a playful way It also has that really essentially human element of making people happy with food

Through its Early Access journey, the identity of the game has been gradually taking shape. The Star Haven, I'm discovering, is the villain. Not a malicious villain, just incidentally cruel by way of being infinitely detached. The oasis of its being is your prison - the proverbial gilded cage

A new Game Dev Journeys video is up I talk about a unified theory a la Conways Game of Life, and the challenge of discovering something so fundamental verses the realities of game development that often require exception upon exception to be built into already complex systems youtu.be/F0AqnKhdEbg

The recover-your-lost-body-parts metroidvania aspect of Star Haven is coming along beautifully The game is all wide-open (ie no walls or corridors) so the metroidvania aspect is loose but surprising, and gels beautifully with the soaring freedom of the giant leap navigation

We've just done a visual and UI upgrade to Dream of the Star Haven You wake up dead, not knowing that you're dead, and with no physical form you struggle to understand the friendly but hollow world you find yourself in Take a look on Steam Early Access store.steampowered.com/app/2696080/...

Another player-first for Joon Shining just appeared in our Discord - the first player ever to get all golds in Arogana. No easy feat!
