My one caveat to the good news: I'm sorry on behalf of OpenNews that we scheduled our conference at the same time as NAHJ in Chicago this year. SRCCON works in part due to great, existing partners in MN. We didn't have any other dates that worked. I'll keep brainstorming ways to make up for it! 🙏

It’s always an exciting day when we get to make the big announcement about the next iteration of SRCCON! That day is today. We'll see you in Minneapolis July 10-11, 2025! Save the date! srccon.org

The OpenNews Community Call is back at 12 p.m. ET! It's a low-key check-in to see how folks feel and what's going on near them. Join us! You can join the voice-only call via Dialpad by calling in at 312-967-0970 or via this link at the top of the hour. meetings.dialpad.com/room/opennew....

Election Day means lots of questions. But unlike elections past, we've got a Slack community full of experts to help you answer them. If you've got a few minutes this morning, either fill out the application to join us or share it with someone who needs it this week! bit.ly/urgentcare-s...

Prepped your Election Day plan and wondering if you've got everything you need? The ElectionSOS team, @jessicahuseman.bsky.social and @minnpost.bsky.social are connecting tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET to discuss just that. Register here: us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...

Such a great program from @jessicahuseman.bsky.social and @votebeat.bsky.social: Any journalist at a local or nonprofit newsroom can sign up to access a Slack channel with 75+ voting experts volunteering their time and expertise on the record. Sign up here: accounts.muckrock.com/election-hub...

"Relationships are the currency of change." The trauma-informed leadership workshop at #SRCCON makes the case for true connection as the foundation to team health and support. That takes time, intentionality and a steady drumbeat of consistent supportive behavior.

I 🩵 #srccon

The #SRCCON 2024 social sessions start soon, and folks are already cooking up some D&D shenanigans in our planning docs! Because we know there's more to journalism than being a "gelatinous cube" sitting at a desk, we invite all sorts to roleplay and have fun.

The familiar sight of an engaging session at #srccon in the beautiful Memorial Hall. It's good to be back.

This MinnPost case study tying topics like the Timberwolves and upcoming elections into pop up newsletters and then related member appeals is stellar. Really smart right time, right message, right audience strategy #SRCCON

I’m here at SRCCON to listen for what journalists are thinking about starting their own publications and newsletters. If you’re building a reader-funded publication, come find me! #SRCCON

Excited to attend #SRCCON in person for the first time this year and talk about a question that's been on my mind: Journalists want the audience’s attention: What if they don’t want to give it to us? Come help us find better practices for audience work: 2024.srccon.org/schedule/#_s...

The awesome facilitators at #SRCCON 2024 aren't afraid to ask hard questions as they lead a peer discussion. This session title says it all. 👏

Our community call starting RIGHT NOW will be a quick preview of our election reporting working groups! Want to join other journalists in brainstorming and supporting one another in elections coverage this year? Join us here: etherpad.opennews.org/p/communityc...

Our weekly community call starts in about ten minutes! We'll chat with Jen Mizgata about her RJI fellowship project, a newsletter course on building work culture. www.littlekeyconsulting.com/email-course Call details below! See you there! opennews.org/what/communi...

The Data Institute isn't only technical lessons — although they're top-notch. It helped me connect to a diverse network of journalists and complemented my future in engagement, elections reporting and journalism support. Reach out to me with questions and apply before April 25! cjddatainstitute.org

Lots of data journalists end up teaching, but not many get formal training in *how* to teach. The Data Journalism Teachers’ Club is a new community here to help, for peers who want to discuss teaching strategies and ideas together: source.opennews.org/articles/dat...

Word of mouth is THE most important way that folks hear about this scholarships program. If you know someone in journalism who could use a bit of help paying for a conference or some other kind of professional development, we'd love it if you'd share share share! 🙏

Hey hey, our Scholarships+ program is open again, with $250 & $500 stipends to help you pay for professional development in 2024! If you're a journalist who works in data and code, you can use this program to build skills & a stronger support network—apply through Jan. 22, or (AND) tell a friend!

We know the whole state of Minnesota has been enthralled by the process of selecting a new state flag, so we thought we'd offer our spin on it to celebrate some big news. We're coming back for SRCCON in 2024! Save the date: August 15-16, 2024 McNamara Alumni Center, Minneapolis, MN

Hey folks! It's our last community call of the year. We're just getting started. Keeping it nice and casual with a look back on 2023 and sharing what we're looking forward to in 2024. Join us! opennews.org/what/communi...

This is a dope time to resurface @opennews.bsky.social awesome survey on POC journalists who left en masse and barely got some tweets It’s so good to see burnout being taken seriously and important to note WHEN it happens source.opennews.org/articles/int...

We're only about $400 away from hitting the halfway point in our $15,000 match! 🥳 We're so grateful for your support today and in days past. Keeping our fingers crossed that we pass $7,500 tonight. Feeling the good #GivingTuesday vibes. 🥰 opennews.networkforgood.com

Great guests for our community call today at 12 p.m. ET! We'll chat with Tony Elkins about generative AI's potential to upend visual journalism and with Sam Cholke and Allison Altshule about INN's new audience survey toolkit. Join online or by phone: etherpad.opennews.org/p/communityc...

On Source, Max Siegelbaum tells how the Documented newsroom fought for data about wage theft in their state, and how you can do the same. It's a project that's pointing them to all sorts of crucial stories, because wage theft can indicate lots of other workplace problems, too.

"No organization is more worthy of support than this one. OpenNews is an island of sanity in an ocean of media crazy." That's the first note we received on our donation page after we announced our end-of-year fundraising drive. We are honored. Can you help, too? opennews.networkforgood.com

Last week at SRCCON 2023 we kicked off a year-end fundraising drive, and holy crap are you all showing up! → $1000 🎉 → $2500 🎉 NEXT → $5000 🌱 These funds support many many community programs, and we are SO grateful for your help in hitting our $15K goal for 2023! opennews.org/donate

❤️❤️ “What I love about SRCCON is how much it changes my notions of what's possible." ❤️❤️ We can't wait to feel like this all over again next month in Minneapolis. And there's still room too! If you know someone who needs this kind of community, let them know!
