Marker: If there is a ‘fever breaking’ moment for Trump (recession, shocker special election result, etc) and it becomes clear that there isn’t going to be a thousand year trumpenreich, you’re going to see a scramble of belated efforts from places like SCOTUS to prove they are totally independent

I feel like I wouldn’t experience any adverse consequences from prolonged exposure to microgravity. Just don’t think it would effect me.

Does holding a security clearance gives the govt the right to piss test you at any time? If it does, next dem admin should unironically spring surprise inspections on every VC with a clearance. Tons of them will pop hot, yank their clearances, make them liabilities to their firms.

The Republican Party has been the motivating force behind most visceral patriotism in my life, because their efforts to destroy the cosmopolitan liberal democracy in which I was born have made me realize that I am in fact quite attached to it, and willing to countenance a lot in it’s defense.

“Actually come to space, pussy” is a pretty funny dunk on Elon Musk, gotta admit

I hope Elon Musk’s adventures in the public sector result in him receiving exactly what he deserves, in a nationally televised ceremony.

Not all of the “do we use too much woke language?!” is just education polarization, but easily more than half of it is, I think.

"trump take egg!" I shout as I crest the hill. a bullet strikes me and I fall. my brother in arms behind me takes my rifle from my weakening grasp. "trump take egg" ,I mumble as the color leaves my vision. "trump take egg", he reassures me as he gently closes my eyes, before rejoining the advance.

guess not everything is priced in after all

#rstats is there a good guide anywhere with packages/tricks for working with larger datasets in R? I'm working with a dataset of a couple million rows, which is substantially larger than I'm used to, and running into a lot headache/dead time as I wait for things to complete.

one thing that does irritate me a little about senior academics complaining about research integrity, p-hacking, etc. (concerns that I totally agree with) is like, I wanna see how many manuscripts with null results you've recommended for publication as reviewer/editor.

creating a "chill work vibes focus" online audio stream, waiting for it to get popular, then inserting the slack DM noise into the stream at irregular intervals, just at the edge of the audible range

We streamlined six new DID-like estimators and created this tutorial for implementation in R. yiqingxu.org/packages/fec... Hope you no longer need to spend months figuring out what these estimators are and how to use them.

whoa this kicks ass

even if it did, a guy with (no offense intended to him, I’m a fan of both) a newspaper column and podcast is not the democrats saying things “as a party”!

Let’s go 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 . I would like this evidence of integration and attachment to be noted for any IRCC officers watching.

reasonably prominent political scientist who has a very silly name (it's not a non-english name that sounds funny, I'm not being an asshole, this is a white person). I work in their area and have applied for a couple of things that they supervise and always am taken aback by it a little.

the amount of tech-right people turning on trump/musk is mildly surprising to me, might be heading back to a situation where the party coalitions are minorities and one kind of racists vs. another kind of racist

a kinda funny thing is that US-Canada unification probably wouldn't be an impossible task for a unified US FP establishment willing to spend like 3-4 decades seriously working at it (no, this isn't saying 'it would be good!'). before president idiot ham baby made it his cause, anyway.

the one very limited bit of empathy I have for people like Elon is that social media is sometimes Not Great mental health wise for me, a relative nobody with a couple thousand followers, the impact that it has on your brain if you are an actual somebody must be like going from Vicodin to fentanyl

sort of funny to imagine all of us reacting to this, like: "I'm really excited about all social housing that's going to come about as a result of the...... uggghh godamnit 'Epic Zoning Pwning' committee"

I genuinely cannot imagine ever finding this man impressive or admirable. Cynical support in a bizzaro world where he was advancing my policy beliefs? Sure. But to look at this guy and think “sir you are an inspiration” would require a personality change so severe it would constitute brain damage.

this fellowship is basically perfect for me because it's literally about my very niche dissertation project, which is unfortunately a subject I no longer want to think about or engage with in any way whatsoever

If you live in Los Angeles please show up at union station at 9am to tell these people (obv. Musk/Trump, not these folks) to fuck off. That’s our train.

Mass Effect andromeda being set like less than two years after the Milky Way species arrive makes a lot of setting elements, like there already being an mos eisley criminal settlement place, really absurd. yeah we froze a bunch of bandits then thawed some of the Crimes Pods first thing upon arrival.

so exempt strictly chronological feeds from this? this notion that “ah whoops well the black box put the blood libel in front 50m, whatcha gonna do” is insane. If a small town local newspaper runs a column baselessly someone a pedophile, they’re in serious trouble. why give Meta immunity here?
