I live at the interface of art and science, glitter and woe. I'm mostly interested in gay stuff, plants, and synthpop. College professor in Twintown, MN. πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦

I'm on the first episode of The Traitors. Girl, what are these outfits?

Lounging in a sunbeambthis afternoon, spinning some records. Starting with the new one I got at Disco Death today.

My favorite people are the people who make things.

Has anyone checked up on Sufjan Stevens recently?

Moloko. Forever More. Loud.

It's single digits out there, there are multiple blankets in here, and so I'm basically outnumbered and it's simply impossible for me to get to work. They'll buy that, right?

I'm not a mountain, no. You move me.

*sighs mysteriously*

Any other new music on the horizon that I need to be aware of? I'm listening to a lot of FKA Twigs and Penny & Sparrow. I think the new Patrick Wolf, Marina, and Perfume Genius are gonna be good.

I'm still totally obsessed with Abracadabra and becoming really excited for this new album.

The shoegaze punk rock kazoo of Curve, and coffee.

Tonight involved some legwork.

I totally love this. Homecoming but make it science.

My colleague just made spoon-dissolving coffee the consistency of nuclear waste. So what I'm saying is I can see ultraviolet light now. 🫨

Here's a little bit of chest hair for all you late-night perverts out there.

Now we're moving into the part of the evening where Penny and Sparrow provides the soundtrack.

This album is just so incredibly transportative. Every single track of electro-blues here is a full aural landscape of charming melancholy.

I roasted butternut and parsnips, added caramelized onions, garlic and fresh ginger, and turned it all into the most delicious, silky, curried soup that is really hitting the spot on this frigid winter evening.

"The cultivation of the spirit of science appeals not only to the intellect, but creates also an emotional and aesthetic pleasure and so ministers to that other side of the mental and spiritual life, the desire for beauty." β€” Alexander Findlay, Prof. of Chemistry, University of Aberdeen, 1925

At least the light in the stairwell is lovely today.

Guess who just locked himself out of the house and out of his office on the day when it's –15 Β°F outside?

I'm prepping for tomorrow's phylogenetics lab, and just read the phrase "mammals share the trait of hair" as an example of a character used in phylogenetic tree construction. But it vividly brought to mind the image of merkins for whales and now I cannot let go of the idea.

One of my overtly South African traits is always having some of this on hand.

What would you like me to do to/for you so you'd grade these exams for me?

I like to provide clues for my exams by writing or drawing on the board. Any idea what the term is for the structure labeled #28 on this ginger plant?

The kind of intelligence that understands the intrinsic value in art and nature, in preserving and creating, is just so fucking hot.

My soundtrack for today's errands has been Depeche Mode's Ultra. What an astonishing and beautiful record it is.
