Does anyone know any reporters on the consumer protection beat in NZ? This needs some press.

I don't understand how these are allowed to be sold in New Zealand? They were recalled in USA. They're so incredibly dangerous. And there's zero warning about them. And they're marketed to kids age 9 and up (which in reality means even younger kids will be given these or the toxic finished products)

someone called AI summaries "mansplaining as a service" and now I can't unthink that.

I still don’t get why this doesn’t solicit a major outcry from historians. The digitalisation of archives has been such an important part of broadening the profession and enabling new approaches. Not enough people as yet understand how digital extractivism works, even if it’s this obvious.

If you listen to one podcast episode this weekend make it this one. In 2019 I took my kids (aged 4 and 5) to a school strike for climate. My father in law posted that he wished he saw the protests so he could mow into them in his ute. It was "just a joke" when I pointed out that was his grandkids.

Not one single mention of masks in this piece. Jfc we're fucked aren't we? The speed and totality of media/government's spineless pandering to the most ill-informed and willfully callous sector of society has been truly horrifying. www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3607...

This morning I watched a Taylor Lorenz video on people who think ChatGPT is a sentient god 🥲

Unconscionably evil. This is on top of doge cuts to USAID which removed access to medication for much of the world's HIV+ population. These cuts include medicine to prevent pregnant HIV+ women passing it on in utero, the result of which will be thousands of children born daily with the virus.

If anyone has the time and inclination toward video essays I HIGHLY recommend this one that speaks to this idea in the most beautiful way. youtu.be/bZWvvXVR8po?...

My kids have requested we make fry bread today after eating their fill at the community hāngī yesterday 😅

Eating leftover hāngī. It has kawakawa in it and now my tongue is numb but I am full of hāngī for the second time today so I am happy. Mānawatia a Matariki ✨

Oh to have a tenth of the confidence of my 10yo son. Who has his first wee girlfriend and cold called HER MUM to introduce himself, tell her they were dating, and ask her to connect her daughter and him on kids messenger 🤪

Fuck I love psuedoephidrine so much 🥹

Excellent thread 🧵. Including the call to fund archives and archivists not AI. This is extra pertinent amid ongoing cuts to archives and publicly accessible history in NZ. www.rnz.co.nz/news/top/564...

I dreamt that I was writing an article on the effects that Socrates' journey with Bill and Ted had on western philosophy. I don't remember anything about the paper beyond the title: "The Lost City of San Dimas: Uncovering the Impact of Excellence and Adventure when the Cave was a Phone Booth"

There is a kākā on my property. I'm sick in bed but my partner saw it and I might just die of jealousy. There are only two other observations for kākā in Wairarapa on inaturalist so this is a wee bit special 😍

Why is hardly anyone talking about the catastrophic cuts to USAID? Thousands of HIV+ babies will be born daily because their mothers can't access medicatin to prevent transmission in utero. It's inexcusibly evil. Do people not remember how awful AIDS is? I know there's a lot right now but fuck.

I was thinking today about how a friend of mine had a baby in her teens and became a grandma in her early 30s when her son had a baby in his teens too. And it occurred to me that the first Gen Z grandparents must be frighteningly near 💀
