Any day that starts and ends with a Barn Owl is a good day. #Ukbirding

A roost of 17 Grey Wagtails in a small reedbed. Never come across roosting birds in groups before.

A dreich morning brightened up by my first 'thermal' Jack Snipe, one of 5. A quick sweep of one of several building sites revealed 14 Golden Plover, blending in with the crushed hardcore. #Patchworkchallenge #Ukbirding

Great night in Manchester with my former teenage dirtbag (now 26) watching Bowling for Soup with Wheatus as support.

7.5hrs in biting cold. Not much to show for it, except a roosting Barn Owl. At least 100 Chaffinch have joined the 300 strong Linnet flock now, which passed an hour going through them as they hid in the setaside hedges. #Lowcarbonbirding

Managed a full year of (E)cycling the 10 miles to work this morning. Tough some mornings leaving the warm car on the drive, but the mental health benefits outweigh the sometimes unpleasant weather effects. Some pre-work #Lowcarbonbirding from next week, hopefully.

Ventured out to the east of my 10km yesterday. Mostly arable desert, with very few birds. Dipped on target Hawfinch and Marsh Tit, but pleasant 35km on the bike. LEOs still in its almost impenetrable roost Friday. Finished the weekend with 5 Yellowhammers just a few 100m from home. #LowCarbonBirding

35km birding on the bike yesterday within 10km from home, taking the list to 74. Not bad going, considering I've only ventured out a handful of times this month. Best of the day a Great White and several hundred Linnets on seaside that held hundreds of Brambling in 24. None this year.

A break from the UK winter last week, with a bit of birding thrown in.
