When taking actions late on a Friday night, a government sends a message its trying to pull one over on the public and the media, that it is hiding something or doing something it believes it should not do or will be seen as controversial. That is certainly true in this case.

No one's blaming Democrats for causing this crisis, but yes, many of them are failing to meet this moment. One Democratic senator could bring the chamber to a halt. House Dems can go to fed agencies being gutted by Musk with cameras in tow. Governors can push back. State AGs can bring lawsuits.

This is a law, passed by Congress, that the executive branch is required to enforce, and which was just upheld by an 8-1 Supreme Court decision less than a year ago.

The administration is not targeting immigrants with violent records. They're targeting the immigrants who are easiest to get: those who show to court and follow the rules. It's a great way to ensure that undocumented people stop coming to court. They're also already ensnaring U.S. citizens.
