SORCERER turns 48 today. Friedkin’s most brutal, brilliant film. A box office bomb turned cult legend. Men. Madness. Machines. Our deep dive into the cinematic hellride: 🔗 cinephiliabeyond.org/sorcerer

'Mon Oncle' is on Talking Pictures TV at 3pm, this afternoon.

What actor’s expression in a movie will stay with you the rest of your life?

Local Hero directed by fabulous @kenbentley.bsky.social today on R4 (and available after too) www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m... Here’s our SCREENSHOT Easter special from a few years back, featuring The Long Good Friday star Helen Mirren, the great @annodracula.bsky.social on British gangster flicks and Sexy Beast screenwriter Louis Mellis 🐣

Simon Perry's strange, splendid ECLIPSE (1977) - BFI Flipside Blu-ray 51: compelling performances by Tom Conti and Gay Hamilton! Sterling support from Gavin Wallace (age 9 1/2)! Eerie electronica! Rugged 'Coastal Gothic'! I've written about it here... www.bfi.org.uk/features/ecl...

It’s the anniversary of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s death. So it’s time again for this glorious track. The future’s still catching up with YMO. m.youtube.com/watch?si=mIu...

I think about at least one of these films usually once every few weeks. Absolutely brilliant & well worth checking out if you're able.

Happy Birthday, Wolfgang Petersen. We are playing DAS BOOT, while an absolute banger, it does have the added uneasiness of making you kinda root for Nazis, and given our current climate, that feeling is taken to eleven. But war doesn't just dehumanize us, it also dehumanizes our foes.

Peter Weir’s The Last Wave (1977) would make a great double bill with Skolimowski’s The Shout. 106 minutes of ominous weather, premonitory dreams, and Richard Chamberlain’s handsome face in 1970s Sydney. Enigmatic and beautiful. Loved it.

Echoing this, it's a rather brilliant film.

Australian film recommendation

Perhaps a bit too timely, but this is a fascinating read!

Hopefully eventually the BBC will make as much of their archive available to the public, but for now it's down to the BFI box sets and YouTube for gems like these.

@torsodapop.bsky.social oh heck, there's even more Gialli in your feed than I realised. My to-watch list is about to quadruple!

My Heart is That Eternal Rose really is an absolute treasure.

This is indeed a must-buy!
