Almost all grant-review meetings under Trump 2.0 remain suspended at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), preventing the world’s largest public funder of biomedical research from spending much of its US$47 billion annual budget. https://go.nature.com/4gM6oW4

Spain still at risk of conversion therapies of LGTBIQA+. In this case, right-wing governor of the capital district alligning with alt-right and stopping a public health initiative.

Glad to have encountered this meta-analysis on servant leadership (a type of leader that searches well-being and flourishing of its surrogates). Benefits are pretty established (more well-being, performance, etc.) but traditionalism seems to impact greatly! link.springer.com/content/pdf/...

Google Calendar has removed key cultural events from their site including: • Pride Month • Black History Month • Holocaust Remembrance Day • Jewish Heritage • Hispanic Heritage • Indigenous People Month

IgNobel material

One thing I absolutely love about itch.io is that it lets me pay more No, seriously! I love putting in some extra, knowing that it’s going to an indie creator

I just lost my job, along with most of my coworkers, due to the illegal grant freeze. I worked at an organization that -helped veterans who have lost a limb -Assisted elderly and disabled people -Helped hospitals better treat people who have lost limbs

Capital đź‘Ź will đź‘Ź always đź‘Ź capitulate đź‘Ź to đź‘Ź fascism. Say it with me folks: CAPITA...

The @aaup.bsky.social released an important statement today. Its realism borders on defeatism, a state of mind that I share.

NEW: We obtained the directions NSF program officers are following to review all grants for compliance with the Trump EOs and the turmoil it has created in an agency mandated to broaden STEM participation. Our story: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

People ranting about "science is not political" voting for people making censorship policies against academic freedom. Again, "not political" means "my politics", and if you challenge that, you will be targeted.

Who would have guessed that open access and open science non-profits such as @archive.org and @cos.io are useful just in case your government want to delete scientific data? And yet, here we are.

There is much trouble in the world, but interlibrary loan is amazing and just keeps getting better. Appreciate the librarians

Our new paper just got published at Nature Human Behavior! www.nature.com/articles/s41... We study trust in science in 68 countries and how it relates to other variables. It was wild to be part of this project 👌✨

Great to see the meta-research, "Aberrant Abundance of Cronbach’s Alpha Values at .70", by @ianhussey.bsky.social, @taymalsalti.bsky.social, Frank Bosco, @malte.the100.ci and @ruben.the100.ci was published in AMPPS of @psychscience.bsky.social journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

The Buddha rarely described his awakening in detail. When asked to explain the nature of his enlightenment, he often remained silent, or he responded in ways that encouraged his followers to look inward rather than cling to his words. Goodnight everyone look after yourself.

I agreed to a lot of manuscript reviews before the holidays and let me tell you, they’re all going to be late

OpenAI doesn't report a single number for its climate impacts - not anywhere, in any way, shape or form. It sounds kind of obvious but the fact that a company with such incredible electricity hunger isn't disclosing basic information about its energy consumption and associated emissions is v bad..

"Ants solving a geometric problem and it's amazing." This is a great example of 'emergent phenomenon': - None of the ants understand the problem they're solving. - None of them can see the whole shape. - A series of small decisions or rules add up to something with a new layer of complexity.

Obviously

🧪🦠🔬 Now that #OpenScience and #FAIR principles are widely adopted in research... Can we start discussing its negative outcomes and how to prevent them? Like promoting the misuse of data and code? Or its role in facilitating misinformation?

New article shows around 65% replicability on social/behavioral Covid papers. This is, just as much as their respective mainstream research, which implies more evidence on Covid research was just as robust: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Si alguna vez os preguntáis hasta qué punto la monogamia es algo prácticamente sagrado en nuestra sociedad, pensad la de gente que cuando se le pregunta qué es lo peor que puede pasar en una relación te contesta que son los cuernos. Preguntadle a Gisèle Pelicot.

New preprint with @uschroeders.bsky.social. In a simulation study, we explored the predictive performance of ML models across various data conditions typical for psych research. Spoiler: Data quality limits the performance of ML models in a similar way to more "traditional" regression analyses.

FYI Entomologists, this dude has had 30+ papers retracted, some of them on ectoparasites/lice. 🧵🧪 www.science.org/content/arti...

This is so good, also the bad science bingo in the website

How do we educate people that ChatGPT is just a probabilistic model and not an intelligent being that knows things? I was in a seminar where the speaker actually said that ChatGPT can be a great resource for *researching data/facts* for presentations and I wanted to bang my head against a wall.
