Former missionary, former pastor, deeply wounded by both for very different reasons. I just want the church to try to look like Jesus.

Hey @josiahhawthorne.bsky.social, we're gonna need a Christian Bluesky map.

Christians spending their energy grasping for power instead of loving their neighbors won't result in a society influenced by the love of Christ. At best it will result in a society that reluctantly acquiesces to forced cultural practices.

Wanna make America great? Proceed in humility. Listen. Consider others as more important than yourself. Love others as yourself. Treat others as you want to be treated.

Use a GIF to show me where you’re from.

I'm a diehard @cowboyfb.bsky.social fan. But this year has been so disheartening, I barely even care to watch. Something has to change.

First time smoking a turkey. 🤤

I just saw an ad for reusable toilet paper.

Christian Nationalists use "Christ is King" to announce a reign of terror against non-Christian Nationalists. Christians use "Christ is King" as an invitation to all people into the merciful reign of a loving God.

Happy, "completely made up story to lie about our relationship to the native Americans in hopes to heal the rift caused by the civil war but damn these Greens and Mac and cheese are SLAPPIN" day. Happy cognitive dissonance day.

A word for turkey (the bird) in Turkey (the country) is hindi. A word for turkey (the bird) in Hindi (the language) is tarki.

🧵Romans 1 spells out a way that God gives people over to their carnal desires. Fundamentalists love to point to that passage to condemn people (while ignoring Romans 2). 1/

People in positions of spiritual authority who abuse will continue abusing as long as they are idolized and affirmed by infatuated followers. #bozlaw

Course-correction without attempts towards restitution and reconciliation is not full repentance. You can't just leave a wake of destruction in your path and then say you've changed so it should all somehow be ok now.

It seems like Trump's picks for leaders of health-related fields are people who would be likely to allow him to experiment with injecting bleach or shining bright lights at people to fight contagious diseases.

@danielwalbert.bsky.social glad you're here, Dan!

Growing up in a cultural Christian environment means you have to deconstruct the tendency to depend on the culture to make you righteous and understand that only Jesus can do that.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Word of the day is ‘sequaciousness’ (16th century): the slavish and reckless following of another person in matters of thought or opinion.

Many evangelicals can't identify what is wrong with hardcore Christian Nationalism because they were raised with the more palatable version being the norm in their churches.

This. Our responsibility is to not become bitter and hardened. To keep a soft heart able to hear confession and acknowledge repentance and offer forgiveness if it is asked of us. But I can’t forgive what they won’t own and repent of.

Periodic reminder: The biblical standard for forgiveness is confession and repentance. Even God works on this standard. Asking victims to forgive when there is no repentance is unbiblical.

I fully support tariffs on illicit drugs.

Today in "linguists are NOT KIDDING when we say that your capacity for language involves being able to understand sentences that have never been said before"

Non-negotiables I have for a pastor that make it really hard to find a church in the Bible Belt: 1) Humility (the real kind, not the faux kind) 2) Gospel preaching (not just as an add-on or altar call) 3) No Christian Nationalism (including any kind of Americana or civil religion in the pulpit)

Something English-only speakers likely don't consider: Spelling bees aren't a thing for all languages because some languages have very consistent and transparent systems of writing.

I suspect that some annoyed pundits are insistent in claiming Bluesky is a progressive bubble not because, as they believe, it’s hyper-partisan, but because for them, subconsciously, the remarkably civil tone of the platform feels coded as progressive. And that says quite a lot about their outlook.

Post a movie from the year you were born.

Jesus' contemporaries found Jesus' empathy toward sinners to be pretty toxic. Let the reader understand.

wow the name of bluesky comes from mandarin Chinese :)
