What if 2 million civil servants emailed Musk back with “I read Grimes’ tweet. You better call her. Your kid is sick.”

Letter from congress that is incredibly alarming. Looks like #DOGE got access to #nasa and they use the word ominous. democrats-science.house.gov/imo/media/do...

Major email servers/clients allow "plus email addressing," a non-standard standard. This can be used to, for example, send multiple emails to the same address: [email protected] [email protected] Bots shouldn't use it to subscribe dumb+asses to junk mail lists. But I hear they do.

I needed to hear this voice and these words at this moment. "This chapter will not be written simply by whoever occupies the Oval Office or wealthiest among us. The American story will be written by you, by we the people." Thank you, VP Kamala Harris. #NAACPImageAwards youtu.be/bnmKwxjMKgs?...

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.

WYOMING: “Thank you, Madam chairman.” “I prefer ‘Mister’ chairman.” “Well you all voted preferred pronouns cannot be compelled speech.”

And here it is, my Joker moment. I am insane now.

This is pretty straightforward authoritarianism: if you don't support my toxic businesses, I will use my government power to kneecap yours.

Yep.

SpaceX has a TERRIBLE track record when it comes to prioritizing safety. If that’s how Elon Musk wants to run his company then so be it, but him and his engineers shouldn’t be anywhere NEAR initiatives that affect aviation safety for everyone else. www.popsci.com/science/nasa...

So much this.

The wanton firing of Civil Servants by that out-of-touch billionaire is the national equivalent of the millionaire telling you to stop having lattes so you can save up to buy a house. Dude, Civil Servants make life in this hellhole somewhat bearable and cost almost nothing.

VERY valuable thread for geoscientists, and all scientists who are looking for the right questions to ask their professional societies. Even after they walked back some of the advance compliance, it was still extremely troubling to see AGU damage the trust they'd built with their diverse membership.

Let me get this straight. Brand-shitty-X spacecraft company has received $15B from NASA? NASA PSD is running >14 missions in the Solar System on less than $3B/year. And that company has barely launched 2? 3? spacecraft out of LEO on $15B? I knew they were useless; didn't realize how wasteful.

They’re taking the wrecking ball to NSF today too. 🧪

It seems to me that if Musk has proof that millions of social security checks have gone out illegally to dead people, he should be presenting that evidence in front of a grand jury under oath tomorrow instead of shitposting it on social media. When can we do this under oath?

As a political scientist who studies countries that managed to stop the slide into authoritarianism, I can assure you that ***refraining from provoking the authoritarian*** is not how it works. Without further ado, I will now go tear out another chunk of hair.

A dark and painful day at a space agency that brings so much light and joy to the world. arstechnica.com/space/2025/0...

NATIONAL ARCHIVES UNDER ASSAULT: They’re coming for our history. The US archivist & staff resigned after Trump officials pushed to replace them w/loyalists. Not just records you’d expect—slave records, immigration records, Native American treaties—all at risk. Will they rewrite or destroy history?

All my love to my Civil Servant colleagues, friends, mentors, mentees, and all the others. You've served this country so well for so long, and to be cast aside is entirely unfair. When will we respond en masse? I don't know. But we will win. And we will build a better society on the other end.

Unfortunately, this is the last 70+ years of conservative politics if we count white flight from public schools after the Brown v. Board of Education decision. It was the essence of Reaganism in the 1980s as well

I'm starting to think DEI may have been the only reason so many planes stayed in the sky...

If someone shows you data saying 12 million people fraudulently collect Social Security every month simply by claiming to be 110+ years old but not dead, you could say “But that’s more people than live in New Jersey! Something’s wrong with this number.” Or you could be like Musk.

State AGs are looking for federal workers who have just been illegally fired to stand as litigants in a new lawsuit trying to freeze further action by DOGE. DM me if that’s you and you’re interested and you’re live in one of the following states: NM, AZ, CA, CT, MD, MI, MN, NV, OR, WA, RI, or VT.

"Attorneys, he said, 'don’t resign because you disagree with the policies, but because you are being asked to do something you believe is ethically, morally or legally improper'...” www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

We're facing unprecedented times. The regime's agenda is not just to destroy government, but also to destroy our will and our community. Colleagues helping colleagues is one of our tools to resist.

New year new PhD project? In case your career ambitions extend to a PhD in #Denmark, @aarhusuni.bsky.social have some really exciting positions open right now, everything from ancient human migrations to atmospheric physics. PhD students in Denmark are employees #phdPosition #PhD #AcademicJobs

Unreal. The US government is dumping Asian and African families and children in random countries that they have no connection to. Dumping, not "deporting." Deportation implies the return of a person to their home country. This is treating people like toxic waste. www.cbsnews.com/news/us-depo...

Allegory alert!

I know it's getting cliche to say "this is straight out of 1984", but... this really is straight up 1984 level shit

You could've been practicing fighting for yourself by fighting for others. You could've stood up for people who are marginalized more differently than you who were under threat for a long time & lent yourself to people devasated globally. You can now. It strengthens muscle you need to survive now.

NOW - I’m live at a press conference with New York Attorney General Tish James and Connecticut Attorney General William Tong. They’re about to enter a hearing re: stopping DOGE from accessing Americans’ private information and sensitive data.
