This seems to be another aspect of modern life in which everyone is expected to be deputized as a comms specialist and no one is held accountable for their moral turpitude.

You hear this a lot on the left but it isn't true. USAID did not "fail to tell its story to Americans," the right targeted the agency with lies and misinformation. Ultimately this narrative turns conservative attacks into even more calls for the left to reform. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/29/o...

imagine telling people a year ago that the neocons of the bulwark will be the strongest allies of trans people while every liberal publication around decides to consistently and openly campaign against basic civil rights for trans people. 2025 feels like a simulation

The New York Times issued a correction for that viral graph from Sunday. Voters aged 30-34 had the highest turnout in New York City’s Democratic primary for mayor, not the very youngest voters. But it’s still amazing that younger voters turned out more than older ones. That almost never happens

I hope that I am not right, but I do not think that the GOP fucking over rural areas will result in rural areas blaming the GOP: instead they'll double-down on blaming imaginary cultural enemies and resentment/fantasy about how the cities must be worse.

I don't want to be too mean to this person, who I think probably speaks for mainstream liberal Judaism, but it does articulate what I find so endlessly frustrating about this discourse, which is that it treats US Jews as if they are the main victims of the Occupation.

The fundamental problem is that there is no 'noble struggle' by either side in the I-P conflict in *actual* Israel and Palestine. It's like those goddamn Balkan ethnic rivalries: whoever is holding the whip hand at any one moment, whether locally or more broadly, acts with tyrannical impunity.

NASA is being told to cancel 19 *active* missions to save $6B, which looks to be less than the ICE *hiring/retention* budget going forward. I need people to let that sentence sink into their bones for a minute.

It's impossible to convey; you have to experience it. Two weeks in pretty much any major EU city and you will see, by way of contrast, just how much grubby, pointless unpleasantness is involved in day-to-day US life. We are rich as hell & yet we voluntarily eat shit, every day. It's crazy-making.

I think the comparison between Liberal or Labour Zionists and anti-Eastern Bloc Communists or Marxists is actually a good and instructive one, even if people on both sides do not like the comparison.

You know what’s more entrenched psychologically than wanting this or that economic policy to make you rich? Domination and power hierarchies, and the use of violence toward their maintenance.

If the bargain the Democratic Party leadership wants to make to the left is, the left should compete in primaries and then support the Democrat in the general, even if it isn't their favored candidate, it has to go both ways: When leftist candidates win primaries, the party needs to get behind them.

We should all be disgusted by the flood of anti-Muslim remarks spewed in the aftermath of Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the NYC mayoral primary — some blatant, others latent. Shame on the members of Congress who have engaged in such bigotry and anyone who doesn’t challenge it.

He did clarify this position on this phrase that he did not himself say! He gave a super nuanced answer where he expressed empathy both for people who feel threatened by this phrase and also for the wide semantic range of the word "Intifada" in Arabic, and why it might feel empowering to others.

when Democrats take power back they are going to have to prioritize and if those communities keep voting en masse for Trump their is literally no political logic in not letting them burn on the stove

Wrecker. As much of a wrecker as the Briahna Joy Gray types.

I'm OK with Democrats going on Fox News to counter misinformation and debate the conservative hosts or moderators. Going on Fox News to slam another Democrat should get you stripped of your committee assignments and DCCC funding.

Democrats have been asked to disavow Zohran more than Republicans have been asked to disavow the guy who murdered two Democrats. Says a lot about how profoundly fucked up our political and media situation is right now.

dems to rurals: “this is real america, not the dirty cities (ew). football, cornfields, county fairs. here’s a trillion dollars” GOP to rurals: “these degenerate druggy hill people will learn the dignity of work once we defund their schools and hospitals” rural elections: [dem🟦] 7% [rep🟥] 91%

they worship at moloch

Bypassing the whole issue of whether Joe Biden is a good and decent man, this kind of thing is the thing the current president would normally be expected to do. Trump didn't even call the state's governor, and the media just doesn't care!

which is what, Eric. be specific

Doing evil shit while crying about the made-up evil shit they imagine their opponents doing is one of the most fundamental right wing behaviors

Coal fetishism is a *fascinating* phenomenon. It's highly gendered, makes 0 technological sense, almost every lobbying dollar spent is against it and there are ~0 workers. It's almost entirely hallucinated

Legislative Yuan antics are endlessly hilarious

look, I'm gonna go ahead & block him because one of his followers just sent me a pretty fuckin explicit threat in my DMs & I am not here for those kinds of games, but if you don't understand how fundamentally immoral & disgusting it is to treat Republicans as a force of nature, that's a you problem.

Two things can be true: that Kirsten Gillibrand is an opportunist who doesn’t care about women and not-so-secretly harbors racist beliefs; and that Gillibrand correctly read the tea leaves with regards to Al Franken’s eight accusers, and people just never heard the “eight accusers” part.

I know I’ve said this several dozen times, but right wing lunatics frankensteined together unrelated Bible verses to create “the antichrist” and a description of what he would look like, and then the guy fucking showed up and they love him.

There are still men in a concentration camp in El Salvador. It seems quite likely Trump will send more people there. We cannot let that fact fall into the memory hole.

This is one of those things that has endlessly bothered me with the discourse around criticism of the IDF. The Israeli press continuously reports on Gaza and the West Bank. It’s not like this stuff is propaganda from extremists. War crimes in Gaza is within the mainstream of Israeli domestic news

If I were a hero I think I would probably not be happy to know that my name had replaced another guy’s entirely because the secretary of defense hates gay people

In Tommy Tuberville's home state of Alabama, 23% of all personal income comes from transfer payments from the federal government. Alabama is the tenth most dependent on federal funding, getting $1.80 in spending back for every $1 its citizens pay in taxes. www.al.com/politics/202...
