Such a lovely morning at the cat cafe, all the little cuties snuggling up in the warm 😻

Becoming homeless due to Russian air strikes - bad & sad, you may come and stay. Becoming homeless due to Israeli air strikes - you brought it on yourself, clear off. We are witnessing a grotesque spectacle at the moment www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

More of the approach that's never worked once in political history: screaming "we're racist!" at the far right in the vain hope that people *who despise you* will switch from more racist parties, without your horrified base switching to less racist ones. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

It's not a demolition site it's a mass grave. It's not a demolition site it's a crime scene. It's not a demolition site its a homeland. It's not a demolition site it's Palestine. It's not a demolition site it's a genocide.

The Treasury Department right now. People are turning out against Musk and DOGE staging a takeover of the Treasury’s payment system. This crowd is big. The whole block is packed. “Lock him up,” everyone yells.

It feels like a dark and scary time for LGBTQ+ people right now. But I love being queer and I'm proud of my community. I have quite a bit of straight passing privilege, so my intention for this month includes wearing one of my pride badges every day and being as out and proud as I can be.

February in the UK is LGBTQ+ history month. It honours the voices that fought for today’s freedoms, whilst pointing out persistent challenges the community faces. #lgbtq #UnitedKingom

Happy Imbolg and happy Brigid's day!

Imagine a world where you never learned or tried anything new, you just kept pushing the button for another pellet like a rat.

The Onion is on a roll at the minute.

Wow. Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde fearlessly calls out Trump and Vance to their faces. This is heroic. (posting in 3 parts due to Bluesky's 1 minute limit)

It's our Trixie's birthday...twelve today and still as cute as a kitten.

Our Trixie is a very sweet, affectionate girl, but she is a bit reserved and not a lap cat at all. But since I got home from hospital and have been in pain and recovering from quite a traumatic procedure, she's been constantly by me, on my lap or laying by my legs with her paw on me. 🥰

It's been a terrible week. A terrible, terrible week. The worst people on earth are full of energy and vigour, the best are defined by anxiety and self-doubt. Here are three simple rules to surviving the next four years, because by God we'll need them iandunt.substack.com/p/a-little-b...

Signed off sick till 20th January. I'd rather be well enough to work, but it's a real relief to know I can be off till my hospital appt and have some recovery days after!

It's Epiphany, which means it's time for Cuddling Kings in Medieval art

A few years ago I made a series of mini drawings of interesting Irish women (available as a print here www.ciaraioch.com/artprints/p/...) - this thread is a little information on the women featured, partly because it's useful, but mostly because I'm trying to be sustainable by recycling content.

Regret to report some of the blue tits on the balcony are absolute thugs and they're bullying poor Miss Trixie

So. Off sick again. In a lot of pain and feeling a bit self pitying. I have received this splendid gift from my partner though which enlivened me!

Trying to approach 2025 the way St. Margaret is approaching Beelzebub

Bird is such a good film.

Happy New Year all. Possibly not too late to turn it around? Anyway, wishing you all resilience, equanimity and playfulness for the year ahead.

Last album of the year; Black Rainbows by Corinne Bailey Rae. Inspired by a visit to Stony Island Arts Bank, it's an eclectic mix of rock, electronica, jazz and Afrofuturism, well worth a listen.

More jazz today! Fearless Movement by Kamasi Washington, a really big expansive record with lots going on, I enjoyed it, on the whole.

today seems like a great day to hunt for all the little details in the new wallace and gromit film! (a thread) The Police Notice Board

Also, I've treated myself to a Mubi subscription with my Christmas money and this afternoon we watched Perfect Days and it was just wonderful.

Album of the day ; A Dream is All we Know by The Lemon Twigs. When I first heard this I had to check a) was it really recorded this year? and b) is it a joke? Tunes just like The Beatles, The Beach Boys or Simon and Garfunkel. If it is pastiche it's very well done though. Groovy, baby.

Earlier this year someone recommended A G Cook's Brit Pop to me and I gave it a go and didn't finish listening to it, so I had another crack at it today. Not for me, which is fine. Not everything is for everyone. Had a listen to the new Nick Cave album instead and that was so completely my thing.

Oh wow, Vengance Most Foul was an absolute delight. Pure pleasure from start to finish.

Back to work today but just for one day, fairly quiet in the mid Christmas and New Year lull. Album for today was another listen to the eponymous Tyla album, which is a mix of pop, R&B and amapiano (a new genre for me), good vibes :)

Bring on the cheese!

Very quiet restful Boxing Day; been to an online silent meditation morning, listened to Poetry by Dehd and Off Menu, read the new Richard Osman that I bought for my dad but got given back cos he's read it, kept my partner (in bed with a bad back )supplied with snacks and hot water bottles. Nice.

Also my album of the day was Prelude to Ecstasy by The Last Dinner Party which is so theatrical and exuberant, a lovely start to the day.

Merry Christmas everyone :) have enjoyed my time today with people I love, playing games, eating lots of nice things and snuggling with this good boy

Happy Christmas Eve youtu.be/s1VH41BtSzk?...

Today I listened to When Will we Land? by Barry Can't Swim, I hardly ever listen to dance music but this is so upbeat and euphoric, I really enjoyed it. And we got sent home from work early, result!

Greetings from the box

Today's listening was Cyan Blue by Charlotte Day Wilson which is very atmospheric but perhaps not for me, and Romance by Fontaines DC, which I liked but not as much as everyone else seems to.

My album for the day was Hit Me Hard and Soft by Billie Eilish which I quite like, but don't have any well defined thoughts about. I've been pretty tired and pained but this evening I went to True Stories Live at the Arts Centre and I enjoyed that. It's heartening to connect with people that way.

I started the month with 31 2024 albums but I did buy a couple more, so had two today...WHO AM I by Berwyn, melodic and soulful R and B, and first listen to Kim Gordon's The Collective which I loved...raw, industrial, distorted sound, felt like a classic straight off.

Wishing everyone a happy solstice with lots of winter feasting joyfulness 🥰

Today's album...Mdou Moctar's Funeral for Justice is a really propulsive mix of rock music and Tuareg desert blues, a fantastic album. And have made it successfully to the end of the week, now sipping an Old Fashioned while eating maraschino cherries straight from the jar :)

And todays album is Songs of a Lost World by The Cure, which is lush, romantic, melancholy perfection.

Also seen by therapist, though it's hard to take her seriously when she comes to work dressed like this

Massive gratitude for the NHS! Contacted my GP on 9/12 with pain and post menopausal bleeding. Seen same day and referred to hospital under two week wait pathway. Seen today ( 10 days after calling GP) and told I need procedure. Contacted same day with an appt on 13th Jan, just 5 wks! Amazing 🥰

"Until men engage earnestly and honestly with the pervasiveness of sexual assault and the aspects of the culture that celebrate and normalise it, not enough will change. The criminal justice system cannot change culture and consciousness; that happens elsewhere." www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Today's album, early twenties by Cat Burns. I really like this one, it manages to be introspective and anthemic and is full of catchy tunes. The lyrics are very heartfelt, about growing up, self awareness, well being, healing and maintaining good mental health. It's sweet and uplifting.

The Manningtree Witches is such a good book.

Still feeling rubbish and in a lot of pain, but on the bright side, I've listened to recorder based prog rock in a bubble bath and read the first stave of A Christmas Carol aloud to the cat so I'm doing all I can for myself.

Album of the day, Mercury prize winner This Could be Texas by English Teacher. I think it's a really interesting album, whenever you think you know what a song's doing they throw in something else.
