And a top 5 roadblock

Other cool stuff includes this super chill superstar

Also met an immature saddlebill. Did a happy dance

Wols x2 🪶

Demon buffalo 🔥 You have no idea how much I want a good ghost story with a flame-eyed buffalo now. Will also settle for a fantasy antagonist astride a flame-eyed buffalo.

Why does he look like a phantom hitchhiker? 😂

Accidentally startled Mrs Hornbill on her cask of amontillado-ass nest. Not half as much as she startled me, I'll tell you that 😂😂😭 🪶

Every time I am in South Africa, I am reminded that somebody really needs to stop South Africa naming biscuits.

Best visitor ever last night

This green wood hoopoe is 100% big enough to feed itself, tbh 🪶

Giant kingfisher for the second time in my life, only about 100km away from where I saw the first in 2022 😁🪶

Honeybadgerhoneybadgerhoneybadger

It's rained a tiny bit today

Hullo

This yellowbill stork does not care 🪶

Got elecharged today. Have never been elecharged in my life before today but had the misfortune of having a grumpy bull step out the bushes. Have never reversed a car so fast 😅 The whole experience is much quieter than you might think.

I tell a lie. It is only 598 miles from my apartment to the nearest restaurant that does a chicken burger.

I have achieved a chicken burger! (And what a burger) For those not privy to my chicken burger struggles, I regularly get absurd cravings for one and somehow not a single restaurant within 900 miles of my home does a chicken burger (true, not even exaggerated)

Marabou storks are Big big. This one is hanging out with the African openbills, which are already full size storks in their own right

Breakfast time 😁 we're having coffee and eggs, the ground hornbills are having gecko and the spotted hyenas are having zebra

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NEWS The tiniest baby hippo has arrived Note mum immediately behind

Saw wild dogs and lions while on foot today 🤩 (dogs pictured, lions not). Reached for a firearm that wasn't there both times, so apparently some habits are firmly ingrained 😂 Aren't they beautiful, though?

Just because a bit of confusion has arisen from this: conservation organisations, park management, even the police and/or military in some places, will sedate and dehorn these animals. This is as kind as possible. By removing the horn, they remove the target. Poachers kill rather than sedate

Today's best birds: southern carmine bee-eater, African green pigeon, southern ground hornbill and crested barbet 🪶

For obvious reasons, this has been posted on a random future date, with location data omitted. If the reasons don't seem obvious to you, count yourself lucky. People are bastards. My first wild encounter with an intact horn. I cried.

I fucking love hyenas. Love 'em. All of them. Both the snarly, scary kind and the fuzzy baked potato kind.

The best kind of traffic stop

Cracking early morning birding run too, featuring (among others): Woodland kingfisher, eight marabou stork and... my first ever martial eagle 😁🪶

Low stakes elephant disagreement around the water hole at midnight

Morning plans temporarily stalled waiting for an extremely hormonal bull elephant to stop having a tantrum and move a safe distance from the road

Also, there is the tiniest lizard. Tiniest.

Chacma baboons are so polite. Top five monkeys, for sure

He left his camera in the accommodation then we stumbled across this. The names he called this bird were probably quite similar to the things the bird was calling the lizard.

Visitors 😁

First encounter with the lion. The bush is dense as hell at the moment and you don't see them until they're practically in your passenger seat. Got snuck up on by an elephant yesterday, which takes some doing.
