The Radical #EnvHum talk "Reshaping Worlds – Beyond the Capitalist Horizon" by Nidvedita Menon just started.

New 𝘈𝘳𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘢 article: “‘Cozy Families’ or ‘Hideous Brutes’?—Working with Southern Elephant Seals on the French Kerguelen Islands” by Katherine Sinclair. On how Raymond Rallier du Baty and his crew struggled to reconcile their sympathy for elephant seals with their violence against them. #envhist

This account now has more followers than our old account on Twitter. We´re glad to see the academic community thriving on Bluesky! Given that the Twitter account was started in 2009 and this one in 2023, this means a lot. Thank you all for building an online community together! #EnvHist #EnvHum

Yowsah! Today we got a #postcard from Dr. Kathleen Carpenter, mother of freshwater ecology! But how do we tell her that her inspirational Pwll Seimon sampling site is now a "ghost pond" in #Aberystwyth? #creativewriting #naturewriting #envhist #HistSTM #ghostpond #nature #pond #biodiversity #Wales

#EnvHist job at the KTH in Stockholm!

My small contribution to the ESEH is to run this cool project. This is a 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 project and anyone can contribute, not just historians. Moreover, the theme does not have to be European, it could even be extra-terrestrial if you like. Just make sure it somehow reflects on "unstable time."

Oliver Sacks was on point. What we call the Anthropocene is not human nor humane, it is a dehumanizing process through which the value of a life is constantly reduced. We live in a world far beyond the human scale. I once wrote about this (bottom of the page): www.cca.qc.ca/en/articles/...

A reintroduction due to the many new people: I'm a historian and philosopher of human–environment relations, especially interested in how technology, ideas, and cognition modify such relations. Currently, I am preparing a book version of my PhD thesis on Lewis Mumford and the ecological crisis 1/4
