My patient brought me a copy of the local newspaper that highlighted our work in the community 🤗 And I LOVE THE HEADING! Who says you can’t spread laughter when promoting health and wellness? Glad the reporter credited my amazing dad jokes 😉

Yes, this seems to be not about policy differences, especially without a reasonable transition plan.

Patient months on a ventilator than a tracheostomy; today, they received their speaking valve. I love these moments, watching their families hear them, for the first time in months! It’s these moments that reaffirm humanity in the ICU and reset hope for all 🤗

Patients are breaking down in clinic today. Just scared. And running out of hope 😞 Let’s do what we can, good people.

Every Greek family member who’s called me today is asking if America is ok.

Being asked to consider removing from my biosketch that I work in the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity as we apply for federal grants is not sitting well with me. Science cannot be silenced.

A dose of good: Long day at work finished by being in Turner Station teaching their Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts bystander CPR! May be biased, but as an ICU doctor, this is such a vital skill to learn. Invest in youth and teach them skills that make them super heroes 💪

Sent med student home early. Got the night staff dinner. Placed breakfast orders for the team tomorrow. The Greek Dad in me is in full force for my ICU team 😊

Worked four amazing years at the NIH. Caring for patients in the ICU. Researching on sepsis & healthcare policy. And I can say without any doubt: the NIH is the standard of healthcare & research. Much to do with the amazing people that work there. Medicine cannot be a public trust without the NIH.

“Negative in volume status, but positive in spirits” has been the theme today in our ICU.

Especially days like this, snow storm and all, parking should be free at hospitals. For all. Essential staff and patient loved ones are doing their best to get there. Least a hospital can do is assure free parking.

I’m hoping everyone’s 2025 goal is to use less “Reply All” emails.

Med student: the telemetry monitors are going off on a lot of the patients simultaneously. Nurse, without skipping a beat: patients are watching football.

Resident: Patient was not oriented to year. Me: it’s been 2025 for less than 24 hours, and we just extubated the patient. I think we can give them a mulligan on this one 🤣

The post code coffee always hits different.

My favorite place in NYC is the 4x4 space in the corner of the Edikted store. Made friends with two dads and one boyfriend 🤦‍♂️ 🤣

New York at Christmas time is unmatched!

These are the Deep Cuts – the redacted, the obscure and the overlooked records buried in stacks of newsworthy releases. Read Jason Leopold's last edition of FOIA Files in 2024 ⤵️

Running around to help a patient have the efficient process they need for tests, tests that will dictate management, reminds me of how fragile our health system is. Constant barriers forcing an arbitrary administrative timeline fails to recognize that diseases don’t abide by prior authorizations 😡

Evening rounds in the ICU end with coffee purchases for the night team. And because of the patients they are about to inherit, there will be cake too 😬 Supporting all night teams 😊

Pulmonary Hemorrhage

The number of daily active US users on X has dropped by 8.4% since early October, from 32.3 million to 29.6 million. Meanwhile the number of Bluesky users has risen by 1,064%👏 www.theguardian.com/media/2024/d...

Being from Baltimore is suddenly a very different experience at the moment 👀

A week ago, when volunteering at the Youth Boxing gym, one of the young boxers was excited for his FIRST job interview😊 But he was worried about what to wear. Me: I got you💪 🥊 Today, dropped off clothing to assure these youth look good for the future! Invest in community.

Two home visits today to check on patients discharged from our ICU. It was great to see how much family support they were receiving as they continue to recover. And it was great to see them as they are 🤗 outside of the ICU. Invest in people 😊

Great new Hopkins Pulm Crit Care class!

To the many residents joining the pulmonary world, critical care universe, or both … welcome to the family 😊 🤗
