Happy 10th Anniversary, Parakeet. 🔗 parakeet.co/blog/10-years/

Today is the 128th Icon of the Day! To celebrate such a nice, classic icon number, we’re celebrating with this really fun disco ball from the 285 glyphs we created for Patreon. It’s so abstracted from the actual object, yet still recognizable! 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/patre...

✍️What If We Had a Blog? 🔗 parakeet.co/blog/what-if...

A little while ago, we crafted a full set of chess glyphs for Deep Green on iOS. Each one was meticulously drawn from its 3D model in the app, with special care to clearly indicate their relative hierarchy in the lineup. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/deep-...

We don’t get to draw a fingerprint icon too often. But for Dailymotion, we needed one for biometric settings. It’s more airy / less dense than typically seen in other apps to match the overall vibe of this set of 187 icons. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/daily...

One of 56 emoji we created for the Playdate Developer Forum. Everyone needs a spa day, even Playdate. Kick back, pop in those cucumbers, and relax. *Do not actually put cucumbers on your Playdate, probably. That might not be covered by the warranty. 🔗 parakeet.co/illustration...

The twelfth day of Christmas. A few years ago we created this app icon for theDrumDictionary, with a simple overhead glyph depicting a drum and a pair of drumsticks resting on a cheerful, playful, and colorful background. 🔗 parakeet.co/app-icons/th...

The eleventh day of Christmas. Primaries is our stock icon set of 784 icons !⃝, available for only $100. In 2016, we added some instruments including this clarinet, which can also represent woodwinds as a whole. 🔗 parakeet.co/stock-icons/

The tenth day of Christmas. When we made 159 icons for Nike, we took many opportunities to tie metaphors back to the brand. For this glyph, we incorporated a basketball jersey as an alternate. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/nike-...

The ninth day of Christmas. For Messenger’s 331 icons, several were of people. Compositions included solo, as a pair, and in a group. In addition to gendered figures with hairstyles (like this feminine glyph), we also created a figure without hair. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/messe...

The eighth day of Christmas. In 2023, Parakeet made 24 icons for a Weber accessory that would display glyphs at a smaller, fuzzier resolution. This cow was drawn with that in mind, simplifying shapes down to simple angles and a blockier form. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/weber/

The seventh day of Christmas. Among Magic Passport’s 552 icons, there are two hotels that differ from the others. The Swan and Dolphin were designed by Michael Graves. They feature enormous sculptures on top, which were very useful to make glyphs. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/magic...

The sixth day of Christmas. Egg emoji vary significantly across vendors. When we created 964 emoji for Facebook, to reduce any possible ambiguity for recognition, the egg we made is brown with speckles. 🔗 parakeet.co/illustration...

The fifth day of Christmas. For the June oven, we made 108 illustrations over the years, like these baked apple rings in a very appetizing golden color. A few fruit and vegetables are presented this way to highlight different angles for those foods. 🔗 parakeet.co/illustration...

The fourth day of Christmas. *Calling* birds. Get it? Okay. This is one of the 964 emoji illustrations we made for Facebook, in our first year working on that project. Unlike other telephone emoji, this one has all 12 buttons on the face. 🔗 parakeet.co/illustration...

The third day of Christmas. For Notion, we made a whopping 876 glyphs, including a small set of animals. This chicken was—surprisingly—not the only chicken glyph we created for a client last year. But this one is distinctly geometric. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/notion/

The second day of Christmas. For Junior Hanafuda, we drew this pair of sparrows, which are commonly seen in wintry scenes accompanying bamboo. Only at a glance are they symmetrical, which is a fun, small detail. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/junio...

The first day of Christmas. This beautiful pear illustration was drawn by Luka a few years ago—just for fun—as part of a “Nook Produce” set of 6, with other fruit and bells from Animal Crossing. You can download them all for your Mac. 🔗 parakeet.co/fun/nook-pro...

Merry Christmas! In Notion’s set of 876 icons, we got to tackle holidays: fireworks and chocolate boxes, jack-o-lanterns and menorahs. This Christmas tree was really just a matter of strategically decorating the conifer icon with three circles. Done. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/notion/

Luka always loves to draw snacks. In late 2014, they drew 5 Christmas cookies which were later upscaled for an iMessage sticker app containing 63 snack emoji. Isn’t that subtly wavy frosting imperfectly perfect? 🔗 parakeet.co/illustration...

For a complex object with limited space, it’s a little tempting to draw a snowflake the same way as the last time, but every one of ours is unique. We’re quite fond of this one for Quill, one of 170 total glyphs made for the project. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/quill/

Symbolically, kiri (柳: paulownia) is used quite extensively in Japan, including as the face of the ¥500 coin. It’s also one of 39 icons we created for Junior Hanafuda to represent the month of December. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/junio...

Walnuts are some of the more unique shapes of food illustrations in the 108-icon June set. This is in the “trio” arrangement we used to show smaller foods, like pecans, almonds, pumpkin seeds, popcorn, carrots, mushrooms, and tater tots. 🔗 parakeet.co/illustration...

The ginkgo (イチョウ) leaves are yellow and falling in Tokyo. Brings to mind Redd and his phony artwork in Animal Crossing. He uses that leaf as his personal mark. This hard drive icon is one of 17 in Volume 2 of the downloadable Nook Storage icons. 🔗 parakeet.co/fun/nook-sto...

There were a bunch of fun icons in the 44-glyph Empower set, though this gift box was really special. More typically, we’d draw a ribbon going down the center of the box with a lid, but this time opted for two ribbon ends cut out instead! 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/empow...

Bag icons are best represented with short, right-angle handles. If the handle is too tall or round, it can be confused with a padlock. In this set of 127 icons for Flow, we had to make both icons, so differentiating was very important. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/flow/

Penne all’arrabbiata was one of 10 pasta illustrations we created for Barilla in 2018–2019. Most of the dishes in the set were long pasta with sauce coating the outside, but the penne meant painting sauce on the inside too! 🔗 parakeet.co/illustration...

There’s a calm that comes from making something intentionally imperfect like these 32 icons we created for Welco back in 2017. We could embrace imperfection, leaning into wobbly and silly. We take icons seriously, but not all icons have to be serious. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/welco/

Primaries is our stock icon set—available for only $100—full of 784 icons for just about everything. Part of making an icon system is being able to reuse elements or components from other icons, like the boot for this ice skate! 🔗 parakeet.co/stock-icons/

We’ve been proud to work with @sdw.bsky.social to make alternate app icons for Halide, refine its shape, and create a custom SF Symbol. For Kino, the challenge was to make a new icon that complements Halide’s exceptional app icon. We’re all very happy this is it. 🔗 parakeet.co/app-icons/ki...

Today is the 100th Icon of the Day, and there is no better icon than this hundred points emoji. We made this for Facebook—just one of 964 illustrations we created. This emoji is also used *in* another emoji. A hundred points to whoever finds it first! 🔗 parakeet.co/illustration...

The Messenger × Star Wars project was focused on theming the chat UI. Most of the 24 icons were straightforward. But “camera.” Cameras weren’t really in Star Wars yet; the closest thing was—no complaints, here—R2-D2. He clearly captures images! 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/messe...

We created 170 reaction icons for Quill’s messaging app, including the standard emoji at the time, like this one with icicles hanging off its face. Even a full-color illustration is a little challenge! We had to be resourceful using only one color! 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/quill/

Our 12-sticker project with Target was mostly about their mascot, Bullseye. But we also drew their cart, because it’s become somewhat iconic. And someone at Target pointed out to us... the cart is a stylized silhouette of the dog, too. 🤯 🔗 parakeet.co/illustration...

Handshake icons are really tough to make. Tougher still if they’re in outline form. Of all the 187 icons in the Dailymotion set, this was the biggest challenge to get right, and we’re very proud of this solution. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/daily...

Last year, we created a couple dozen icons for a Weber accessory, and I —hi, it’s Louie—am a very big fan of fan icons. Finally, I got to draw one. The blades are large enough to have a strong silhouette. No flimsy blades allowed here! 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/weber/

Over the years, we’ve made 108 food illustrations for June. One of the later ones was egg-in-a-hole, which combined the toast illustration with a new egg set inside. We do this sort of thing for glyphs a lot, but it’s just as fun for illustrations! 🔗 parakeet.co/illustration...

Here’s Fritz from the Enchanted Tiki Room—who almost fell out of his perch! He’s one of four icons in this pixel icon set, made just for fun. It’s amazing what you can accomplish with such a small space and a limited color palette. 🔗 parakeet.co/fun/enchante...

We almost always draw document icons for large sets. In Patreon’s set of 285 icons, we had a few, with different attributes. A document with a percentage is the limit, though. A single icon doesn’t often successfully communicate more than two things. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/patre...

The best part of making Pokémon-adjacent apps is making icons to go along with them. This Pokédex is one of 31 glyphs we created for real iPhone apps masquerading as products from the in-game Silph Co. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/silph...

Shh, don’t tell anyone— but when we made 964 emoji for Facebook, we snuck a Disneyland monorail in the set. We reversed the colors as to put it in a little bit of a disguise. But once you see it, you can’t unsee it. 🔗 parakeet.co/illustration...

We’re fortunate to have had a few clients let us draw poo. This one from Notion’s 876-icon set gets the emoji treatment, with a cute little smile. Bonus: go check out the icon we made for “soft serve”! 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/notion/

Many of Magic Passport’s 552 icons are of landmarks. This one represents the Italian pavilion in EPCOT’s World Showcase, featuring a simplified Palazzo Ducale and Campanile di San Marco, two of the most recognizable structures in Venezia. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/magic...

In 2018, we made some emoji-style stickers of Digit’s mascot. The result is a friendly, humanoid robot with a hint of hair and ears, pill-shaped eye modules, one wide tooth ?⃝, and artificial blush. A synthesized emoji, if you will. 🔗 parakeet.co/illustration...

We love a brief that perfectly matches what we’d love to draw most. This app icon for Jamalytics is one of our favorite illustrations, featuring a delicious berry jam in a glass jar, topped with a frilly red cloth over the lid, tied with a string. 🔗 parakeet.co/app-icons/ja...

Several of the 21 icons we made for MOVA were ones we normally don’t get to draw, like solar cells. It’s nice to relax a little whenever icons are used to punctuate rather than serve as an interface element, because the icon can be more abstract. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/mova/

November is represented as yanagi (柳: willow) in hanafuda(花札: flower playing cards). Each of the 39 crests symbolizing plants and animals in Junior Hanafuda was crafted to follow principles found in traditional Japanese family crests. 🔗 parakeet.co/glyphs/junio...
