This brings up some interesting questions on how a society with diverse religious and moral beliefs decides who is allowed to choose assisted death. At what point of serious mental illness do we decide that a person fully comprehends the choice that they're making?

More than 75 Nobel Prize winners have signed a letter urging senators not to confirm RFK Jr. The letter marks the first time in recent memory that Nobel laureates have banded together against a Cabinet choice. But Kennedy is a threat they could not ignore, one said. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/09/h...

Is this why finding the backpack took as long as it did? 🐷

Horrifying

🧵There are 45 days until Inauguration Day, and I’m working on updating the Capitol Riot Map—an interactive visualization of the more than 1,500 individuals arrested or charged in connection to January 6th. Follow this thread for updates, and explore the interactive visualization: capitolriotmap.com

Nearly every single Republican voted against releasing the Matt Gaetz ethics report. Remember this the next time they pretend to care about protecting minors.

This year’s U.S. Presidential Election is going to be so much harder to ever really understand than the election in 2016, mainly because #KamalaHarris is such a better candidate than #HillaryClinton was, and 2024 Trump is such a worse everything than 2016 Trump was.

If you are exposed to a bat GET THE RABIES VACCINATIONS. Even if you "don't think it bit you". If administered quickly after exposure, your chances of getting rabies is almost zero. Once you show symptoms of rabies, you are almost certain to die from it.

Don't forget the green beans casserole

While I do generally agree with this, educating and pushing Americans to be healthier and seek preventative care would save A LOT of money and needs to be a big part of the healthcare discussion. Especially as a lot of the first world is trending towards having an increasingly older population.

Who could've guessed

What are some actual ideas for helping homelessness and the problems that cause homelessness that are being discussed? I hear so many talking about this problem but what is actually being done? #urbanism #housing

An interesting perspective that doesn't get talked about enough. We cannot allow EVs and AVs to replace our options for walking and biking. Cleaner and healthier cities mean better pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.

Ban pharmaceutical ads!

Having 2016 as the first national election I could vote in is kind of heartbreaking because I never got to be involved in a "normal" political landscape

One mistake urbanists often make is arguing with people when they say they NEED their car for, frankly, whatever. Maybe they do, maybe they don’t, but I find the more effective point is that, if they have to or want to drive, it’s in their best interest that their neighbours can CHOOSE to NOT drive.

Do I need 150 HDMI cables? No, of course not. Do I HAVE 150 HDMI cables? Yes, of course I do. Who throws away a perfectly good HDMI cable?
