I have $350 in CapOne shopping rewards, thinking of cashing it out for a @Lowe bys gift card to buy super high toilets for my new home. I'll happily spend real money on a bidet seat, but prefer to use "found money" on a couple of cra- ...um... commodes.

Miami airport, D gates @ 1:30 pm on Superbowl Sunday. Priority Pass lounge (Turkish) at capacity, couldn't get in. No bottle fillers. 2 out of my nearest 3 charging stations were dead. Uncushioned seats. Score: 3/10.

Ordered a Lyft from Port Everglades to FLL, price came up as $23 - as it did for everyone. Then surge pricing really hit and everyone's driver canceled and switched apps to do $50+ pickups. My driver didn't cancel on us, so we gave him a $20 cash tip. Fair?

I’m on a cruise with 120 FIRE friends, old and new. I always end up with one big piece of creative, actionable knowledge that makes the cost look cheap. Also, my mom's Pall Malls are $30 a carton instead of $100. Twelve will last her a year. The $840 savings is more than I paid for the cruise, lol.

2 ways to save $18 on passport pics: 1- Members of AAA with an office nearby can get them done free. 2- Take a selfie that meets the guidelines, trim it to a 2"x2" square. In Canva, create a 4"x6" rectangle, make a grid of 6. Print anywhere for 25 cents. That $18 is better spent on your trip!

Wednesday's Mini Money Moves: 1- Expressed interest in a dog muzzle in my Buy Nothing group on FB 2- Unsubscribed from emails for 4 retailers I only buy from at Christmas 3- Checked on my Worthy bonds ($6933) for withdrawal on Feb 1

Ugh, that better flight I booked at 3:30am? Cancelled because it connects in Dallas (on AA), and Texas doesn't do cold. Rescheduling options were horrid. But then United to the rescue with an excellent flight through Denver for 15,000 miles! #TravelHacking saves me more than just money.

I never sleep well before I fly. So what did I do at 3:30am? I turned sleep lemons into travel lemonade. I changed my flight from United with 2 stops for 15K miles to American with 1 stop for 9K miles. I leave 30 mins later and arrive 90 mins earlier. #TravelHacking

I've never been into typical Saturday night stuff, not even in college. But I do feel like 1-2 nights a week should be different from the others, to break the monotony of self-employment. Maybe I should invent "Screenless Saturdays After Dark". I need some pattern disruption! #ScrollNoMo'

Mom (not a dog person): "These videos about rescuing skinny starved dogs makes me want one." Me: "Not a bad idea for you to have a dog of your own, they're very protective and loving." Mom: "I'm not going to a shelter to adopt one. But if a starving one came to the door and adopted ME, I'd keep it."

I love a pretty infographic. I love the color purple. But here's a case where purple is BAD - showing me where I should *not* move if I want to afford a life outside of my home. Any surprises here? I, for one, am shocked that New York & New Jersey are so light - and Colorado is purplier! #Housing

HOMEOWNER MONEY TIP: Your county might discount property taxes if you pay a little early, usually 1% per month. It's a good reason to NOT escrow your #PropertyTaxes. Pay a $4000 tax bill 3 months early = $120. I'll take that! #PersonalFinance

I have never been so...organized??...on #ChristmasEve. I definitely prefer hectic! Just picking up tomorrow's prime rib dinner from @TexasRoadhouse, who sent me 3 different coupons for a free appetizer in the last 24 hours. So I'm getting the ribs - for tonight's dinner, lol.

My sister & her husband gave their 11yo peewee #IceHockey son his Christmas gift early. They picked up his bestie teammate on the way to Denver, and surprise! - gave them tickets to tonight's Avalanche game. #BestMomEVER

I put up my first post on Substack today. It's kind of dull, but it's not long and quite skimmable (the way dull stuff should be). Check it out, and I promise to be more entertaining after this! https://buff.ly/4fxSfLm #PersonalFinance

Five 5-Minute Credit Moves 1. Email your #CreditCards and make all due dates the same. 2. Set up auto-pay for your credit card minimums. 3. Download the apps for your banks & credit cards (safer than a browser!) 4. Freeze your credit reports at all 3 bureaus. 5. Google #Quishing

At least 80% of "influencer culture" is toxic. I think. I don't follow the FOMO-mongering crowd. I need to find more creative frugal-fluencers to follow!

In the midst of my discount #GiftCard shenanigans - getting $112 face value on my choice of 300+ brands (One4All) for $70) - I randomly decided to check balances on gift cards from 2019 - and "found" $40 in unused Target gift cards. My weird email filing system + sixth sense kinda works!

How would you like 2025 to be different? Call them resolutions, goals, whatever you want, but how will you make it different, better? For me: - Scroll less, read more books - Get good at 2 "signature dishes" - Grow an ingredient of those dishes - Add more movement to my days

I was looking for short podcasts about backyard veggie #gardening for total newbs, and there's an awful lot about doing it to weather food shortages in 2025 due to...things that are not new. War + drought + disease = famine? What century IS this!

I have recently come across a couple of p/t jobs I would enjoy as someone semi-retired or BaristaFI: airport wheelchair pusher and Sam's Club/Costco/Whole Foods food sample lady on weekends.

I just signed up for the free plan at TripIt because I'm slammed with little domestic trips the first 3 months of 2025 - Florida (CampFI), Vegas, Georgia, Florida again (FinTalks cruise), Vegas again, Georgia again (moving). In that order. Hm, looks a lot less confusing typed out like that, lol.

I finally created a trust. No spouse, no kids, so it takes some effort. I did it through @willandtrust.bsky.social using a 25% off code and earned 5x UR points through the portal. On the backend, I triggered a $50 back on $150+ offer (on most Chase cards). I love minimizing essential expenses!

I'm a HUGE #pickle lover, always have been. I joined a class action lawsuit for something related to pickles (it was a while ago, I forget the deets), and just got a $10.38 virtual MasterCard as my piece of the pie. I just donated it to the @wikipedia.bsky.social annual fundraiser. They rock.

I was hoping more #PersonalFinance folks would be on Bluesky by now, since no one is on Twitter anymore. Can anyone recommend people/accounts that discuss: * Personal finance * Eco-frugal life choices * Feminist issues & awareness * Easy/lazy backyard veg gardens [@frugalnurseonfire.com - add me?]
