Very much appreciate this detailed review of States-in-Waiting in Diplomatic History by @bradleyrsimpson.bsky.social academic.oup.com/dh/advance-a...

Thank you @wmatagm.bsky.social and @wmata.com for opening the Metro early today for the @cucb.bsky.social Cherry Blossom 10M! Nothing like taking transit to a race and enjoying the pre-race atmosphere!

See, this is the thing—there will be people who continue to try to explain what is going on as neoliberalism, but to do so you really have to do some mental gymnastics on your definition of neoliberalism. (Not that many people had good definitions of neoliberalism to begin with.)

They say political science has a replication crisis, but some people really did elect a businessman with flawed ideas about international trade twice and the economy tanked both times. Congratulations to political science proving the replicability of its experiments.

Infrastructure improvement on this busy road is long overdue! While we are at it—perhaps the town should consider paving the remaining gravel segments of the north sidewalk along W Cameron as well. Having to walk through mud literally anytime it rains is not fun!

Mark Carney: “Ugh so he calls me up and he’s like, ‘just kidding I’m delaying the tariffs’ and I’m like, ‘I’m, just, I mean, this is exhausting, you know, like we are never getting back together, like, ever’ (No!)”

Oh, look! The Texas National Security Review is on here. Give us a follow: @tnsr.org.

Desperately need the Town of Chapel Hill to get on here, because I refuse to have to go on the other website to tag them on things like this. Raleigh Rd is dangerous even without construction as motorists frequently speed there. It needs traffic calming/road diet measures and protected bike lanes.

RJ Davis out there shooting shots from Cincinnati.

TARRRRRRRRRR

War is peace, freedom is slavery, etc.

In the 1930s, the world fell apart in large part due to American disengagement. Today’s international institutions were built to keep the United States in. While they might have foreseen the US sliding back into isolationism, they probably did not expect the US would actively try to dismantle them.

I think actually civilian control of foreign policy and the military means you should primarily hold accountable the politicians who negotiated a deal with the Taliban and forced the hand of everyone—military and civilian—who came after to have to deal with this mess to begin with. Oh wait.

Can someone who understands the economy explain to me how 80% of German voters think that the economy is bad but at the same time 80% of German voters think that their personal economic situation is good?

By just under 13,500 votes, the horseshoe theory party misses the threshold to enter parliament and therefore a potential grand coalition between the Christian Democrats and the Social Democrats will have a majority. A GroKo is never exciting, but probably the best of all alternatives floated today.

The traditional people's parties are facing a serious demographic crisis here: a majority of 18-24 year old voters chose to vote for the parties that have never governed at the federal level. All these parties are also against western aid for Ukraine. (Die Linke have moderated their policy on this.)
