A visit by #gtfc to Cheltenham is always cause to remember the great Grimsby children's author Dr Seusses and their magnificent poem for @codalmighty.bsky.social "I do not like that Cheltenham" codalmighty.com/site/ca.php?article=6262

"Revolution is never practical until the hour of the revolution strikes. Then it alone is practical, and all the efforts of the conservatives and compromisers become the most futile of human imaginings" James Connolly knew a thing or two about the Trumps, the Badenochs, the Starmers of the world

Can I ask anyone who has resigned from the Labour Party since Keir Starmer became leader, have you joined another party instead? Asking as I've gone way past the last straw, and am curious what others in the same position have done

Some so-called Labour ministers are taking the Mickey

I may be misremembering but I think Trotsky, 100 years ago, described Labour ministers as scared of their servants, always second guessing to make sure their decisions were approved. Then it was MacDonald, last week it was Reeves, today it is Phillipson, always it is Blair and Starmer.

I've just finished reading Naomi Klein's quite brilliant Doppelganger. I suspect it shows in today's @codalmighty.bsky.social diary. codalmighty.com/site/ca.php?...

Any recommendations for a history of Britain between 1918 and 1939, aimed at a general reader? Thanks for any suggestions

Needless to say, my diary for @codalmighty.bsky.social today picks out the key incident from last Sunday's success www.codalmighty.com/site/ca.php?...

I had fun mining my 1920s research for today's @codalmighty.bsky.social diary. Hope you enjoy reading it, and happy holidays. www.codalmighty.com/site/ca.php?...

Has anyone considered the possibility that the advice Peter Mandelson offers Keir Starmer is intended to encourage him to make decisions which make us almost nostalgic for Tony Blair?

Me, having worked in the public sector throughout my career: "why do politicians always make civil servants the scapegoat for their failures?" Also me: "why is it so hard to get anything done in this job?"

Does anyone know why Keir Starmer is suddenly channeling Liz Truss?

Had fun working in my favourite line from the late lamented Neil Innes in today's Cod Almighty diary codalmighty.com/site/ca.php?...

Rule of thumb: if someone starts throwing around phrases like "state suicide service" or trying to turn a debate into part of the "war on woke" they are obviously not confident of their case and don't deserve support

Learning it is Bedfordshire day reminds me that I went to a Mark Steel gig in Luton the evening after #gtfc had beaten then 4-1. He had also been at Newcastle two weeks earlier when we best them, so he opened by saying "I always seem to be on in places which have just been beaten by Grimsby"

Lincolnshire getting an excellent press in tonight's episode of Wolf Hall

Puerile I know but after #gtfc's awful show yesterday we need some schoolboy humour. I'm drafting the description of Town's first used of red stockings in 1934, except my finger hit C instead of S, so "The Mariners wore red cocks"

www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... We used to describe the evolution of the Labour Party from Jim Callaghan to Tony Blair, as reformism without reforms. Its gone beyond that now to reformism without even the promise of reforms. This article captures the crisis acutely

A rather lovely, old school Cod Almighty diary: a gentle vaguely topical amble around how it feels fitting support for #gtfc among our other interests and concerns. search.app?link=https%3...

So if I post here that in the 1920s #gtfc had a goalkeeper with one thumb, what will be the response?

I guess I have to accept I'm old when I buy tea from someone who did not realise that once everyone made tea with loose leaves, a pot and a strainer

Just back from a walk. All "Good mornings" from the dog walkers I met without a single "Merry Christmas". I was approaching one man who was bracing himself but was clearly relieved when I just said "Hi". I guess only dogs and introverts go out on Christmas morning

If you remember 1970s UK politics you were almost certainly there, and interested to learn that liblab is now a syrup that makes it easier to cough
