I’m one of those crazy leftists. I also enjoy Star Trek. I’m an educator in cancer research. I’m also not THAT kind of doctor. (he/they) 🏳️‍🌈 https://linktr.ee/pdpatterson

A whole generation of early career scientists and physician-scientists, including colleagues and myself, are particularly vulnerable to these funding freezes and cuts, with jobs and careers depending on federal grants. #IDsky #Medsky #Episky www.science.org/content/arti...

In a small trial, nearly half of pancreatic cancer patients who received an mRNA vaccine had no signs of relapse after three years. Dr. Vinod Balachandran from @mskcancercenter.bsky.social joins us to discuss the results and what they could mean for cancer treatment.

“What part of diversity, equity, and inclusion do you have a problem with?” www.science.org/content/arti...

BTW — the NIH definition of diversity that the current administration scrubbed from the Internet included individuals from rural areas. By trying to kill “DEI,” they’re literally just trying to kill Americans.

I'm a 38 year old with a doctorate. I just realized that younger colleagues at work may look up to me (most likely because of my positional power and the aura around that, but perhaps too because I'm very good at my job) and I AM SHOOK. I'm just a baby, y'all!

this is the only president I'm honoring on president's day

I can’t be the first person to think that Sesame Workshop and Lady Gaga need to team up to release the hot new single “Abby Cadabby” to raise funds to help Sesame Street find a new home.

About 2.5 years ago now, I started working with cancer researchers. This book, The Code Breaker (about Jennifer Doudna and CRISPR gene editing) is fascinating. I’m only 20% in, but it raises such important points about the import of science.

@netflix.com We would LOVE to see a third season for #StarTrekProdigy! Please make this happen!

Long story short. Them bitches WEAK. Run tell that…

Earthquake post

Two weeks ago, Ms. Tooth (who I love) said “I don’t care if RuPaul didn’t think I was funny” and two weeks ago, it was “who cares what anyone else thinks, RuPaul liked me.” The delusion in this season. #DragRace

I must be on the wrong parts of @bsky.app because how did I find out about Goonies 2 from a marketing email before I saw anything on Bluesky?

Me and my friends on our way to annoy @netflix.com into giving us more #StarTrekProdigy

The VA fired my mom. She was like 3 months from government pension.

This man and I were in high school at the same time. (Not the same high school, but just he was likely a senior when I was a freshman.) This is what evil does to you.

Like, the literal baby in this picture has an 18 year old kid?!

Wait, my YOUNGER sister has an 18 year old kid now??? Oof. The joints feel it.

This show is gonna be for me, I can feel it

When I say “American icon,” I mean Flavor Flav.

She’s so right. Deep Space Nine is the best #StarTrek.

Google Calendar has removed key cultural events from their site including: • Pride Month • Black History Month • Holocaust Remembrance Day • Jewish Heritage • Hispanic Heritage • Indigenous People Month

🚨 HELLO #STARTREK FANS! 🚨 It is Hugo Awards season again! If you enjoyed #StarTrekProdigy, please consider nominating our second season for Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form) and help spread the word! It would aid our show tremendously. 🖖 www.thehugoawards.org/2025/02/2025...

Cutting research funding to Universities will prevent breakthroughs such as fighting glioblastoma from UF using MRNA technology This research can help Save lives cancer.ufl.edu/2024/05/01/u...

I drew sareks kids. Please let me know if you think I got Michels skintone wrong. I color picked from a photo but that's not always the best way to choose a skintone. Sybok design is completely made up from my own head. Spock is the youngest sibling #startrek #spock #siblings #discovery

This is dangerously irresponsible on every level. Indiscriminately slashing this funding will cripple lifesaving research on everything from cancer to opioid addiction.

NIH doesn’t just support infectious disease research—it drives breakthroughs in cancer, childhood diseases, heart disease, diabetes & more. Thanks to NIH, we have: 💉 Cancer immunotherapy ❤️ Cholesterol-lowering statins 🩸 Insulin for diabetes Investing in NIH = investing in life-saving discoveries.

I’m listening to Watergate: A New History by @vermontgmg.bsky.social and it’s crazy how like every day since January 20 has been like five full-on Watergates per day.

To give perspective, they’re cutting indirect costs on grants. These costs “keep the lights on” — they pay for all the infrastructure that allows research to happen (everything from Human Resources to grant specialists to utilities). They’re slashing them from 27% average to 15% tops.

The NIH announced it will slash billions of dollars of support to universities and research centers. This is one of the biggest attacks on science we have ever seen. It could dismantle the biomedical research system, shut down clinical trials, and halt development of treatments.
