One result in yesterday's Canadian election sums-up what just happened. Until only a couple of months ago, the Conservative Leader was widely expected to become PM. Instead he lost his parliamentary seat.

Parks in Cally will continue to be securely locked at night Islington Council has announced it will continue to securely lock parks and gardens at night. Following public consultation, Councillors have dropped a risky plan that would have left parks unlocked throughout the night. Of the parks and…

Islington Council has decided that 44 of our 122 parks and public gardens will remain locked at night. Over 1,700 people responded to a consultation and the overwhelming majority disagreed with the plan. A good decision.

A high risk development project is being dropped by Islington Council. It was a very expensive plan that tried to deliver too much at the cost of sports pitches and open space. Also riskily reliant on selling "market priced" housing to cross fund new affordable homes.

The St George's flag was today raised over Islington Town Hall. It flies alongside the Borough colours and the Union Flag. We fly the flags of all the nations of the British Isles on national days: St George, St Patrick, St David and St Andrew.

Amazing. Imagine saying that when your entire game plan was just putting in more crosses than a catholic gift shop at Easter.

A community centre nursery in Islington has abruptly closed leaving parents bewildered. www.islingtontribune.co.uk/article/pare... The Tribune says the centre had an "inadequate" Ofsted report. That's an understatement. It's a shockingly bad Ofsted report, here: files.ofsted.gov.uk/v1/file/5027...

Bad result for Labour in Haringey's St Ann's ward by-election yesterday. Greens had a compelling 3-prong message: "send a message to Starmer"; "voting Green won't alter the control of your Council"; "keep Labour honest on the environment". Those messages really only apply in a by-election.

Next year is the 250th anniversary of the USA. The founders declared independence from a mad king. Last year their descendants elected one. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_...

☀️ SUNNY DELIGHT! ☀️ Delighted to see so many Labour members, Councillors, leaders, a Mayor and our local MP meeting up outside the Town Hall to meet and chat with local residents 🌹🌹🌹 With #SaiqaPandor #OliurRahman #CarolineWoodley @emilythornberry.bsky.social #UnaOHalloran #islingtonsouth

Hate "America First" politics? Let's go with "Europe and UK First" instead. To get started I'm "dropping Dropbox" and using this EU based service.

The price of Boeing aircraft is about to increase. The company outsources from suppliers all over the world. Many in countries now subject to Trump Tariffs. Boeing could substitute e.g. GE engines not Rolls Royce. But many of its components are from long-term suppliers with no available alternatives

Remember that Wisconsin State Supreme Court election when Elon Musk handed out £1m cheques to voters? The Trumpists spent $53m trying to win it yesterday. Lost by over 10 percentage points. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Peak North London? The Camden New Journal newspaper titles are rightly legendary. Here, Tom Foot (yes, one of the equally legendary North London Foot family) injects a little colourful detail into a basic housing repairs story. It's glorious.

A glorious day at Kew Gardens. Here’s a fabulously flowering Magnolia.

I don’t post much about travel but today is untypical. Taking 08.30 Paddington to Bristol visiting a City I once lived in (1975-79) but haven’t returned to in several decades.

Islington’s long campaign to save the Whittington maternity unit has been successful.

Hard to understand why the Guardian has published this Cummings self publicity. The attribution of remarks to "friends of Cummings" is funny. Presumably it's spouse Mary Wakefield (an editor at the Spectator). Cummings doesn't have "friends".

I just got asked if this posting on Twitter/X by Islington Council is a spoof or a hoax. Apparently, it is neither.
