With these election results, it’s crucial that we fight for what matters immediately 💥💙🌟 I left Twitter despite having over 250,000 followers who cared about the NHS, because it became impossible to speak to people. Could you help me reach 50,000 followers on BlueSky? …

When you work in government - as I did - a key question to ask is: How will this policy be most effective? The two-child limit on benefits is almost entirely responsible for child poverty in larger families. Everyday this policy stays in place, more children are pushed into poverty.

Attacking the rights of a marginalised group isn’t a win for feminism. Demanding that women be defined by our biology isn't a win for feminism. The people driving this are not acting in the interests of women. They're taking us all backwards and ushering in the far right.

The gospel accounts of Easter aren't in agreement about what happened on this day. But they share one startling claim: Women witnessed the resurrection first and no one believed them. Imagine if it had been different. Sunday Musings: Easter open.substack.com/pub/dianabut...

Let's stand with the workers facing pay cuts. Let's stand with the Trans community who's rights are under attack. Let's stand with the disabled loosing their financial lifeline PIP. Let's stand with Palestine facing ethnic cleansing. Let us stand together. Solidarity ✊

Did you know: one of the biggest ways to make a positive environmental impact is to eat plant-based every now & then and also to not go to space

Very helpful article in the light of Supreme Court etc Scientific but not beyond this non scientist's comprehension.

Simple neuroscience-based hack for anxiety: 🌿go & be in a place with plants & trees for 15 mins 🌳You'll inhale plant oils(phytoncides) from foliage 📉your stress hormone(cortisol) will drop significantly Many of our brain pathways evolved to motivate us to forage for plants-they're still very active

113 years ago tonight, the Titanic struck an iceberg, as a result of hubris, greed and denial. It wouldn’t happen now, of course, as all the icebergs seem to be melting. For the same reasons.

❗ Our NEW @YouGov.co.uk polling shows 68% of Brits think a closer relationship with the EU would have a positive impact on trade. Even among people who said they would consider voting for Reform UK at the next election, 54% said closer EU ties would have a positive impact on trade.

Entirely predictable. Forming policies to chase Reform voters, such as anti-immigration, increased anti-trans and attacks on the disabled, not only don't go far enough for those who actually support such moves, so don't pick up Reform votes, they also lose left wing and progressive support.

“we have … learned to see the great events of world history from below, from the perspective of the outcasts, the suspects, the maltreated, the powerless, the oppressed and reviled, in short from the perspective of the suffering.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer, executed 80 years ago today by the Nazi state.

Number crunching: Cuts to health and disability benefit, and reduction in financial support for carers v unpaid care carried out every year. From the new Private Eye, out now.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

In the past week 3 people with ME passed away. 💔 This is so utterly heartbreaking, no words. How many more until something changes. RIP Lena, Sharon and Bo 💙💫

Put up by Katy Brand today - this is the story over and over again

🤣

Britain is home to almost half of the world’s bluebells, found in ancient or semi-natural woodlands, flowering in April and May. 'Bluebell woods' by contemporary UK painter Susan Entwistle #WomensArt

Victorian diseases erysipelas and scabies return to the UK. Poverty, malnutrition, poor housing are the main causes. Govt response - benefit cuts for poor/disabled, two-child benefit cap, winter fuel payment cut, freeze tax thresholds. NHS queues, can't see GPs. Must redistribute.

Energy bills up 6.4% — while network providers raked in £4 billion in “excess” profits over four years. Water bills up 26% — while firms paid £78 billion in dividends since privatisation & racked up £64 billion in debt. End this scam. Bring water & energy into public ownership.

So glad for the Trans community. #TDOV

Hi, my name is Rachel. I am a senior cleric in the Church of England, an award-winning poet, theologian, and broadcaster. I am also trans and I love this truth. The world’s trans community is scared at the moment but we refuse to be invisible. See me and my siblings! #TDOV #TransDayOfVisibility

Labour, Tory and Reform: We can't tax the rich because they might leave. Everybody else: We can't put more disabled people into poverty because they might die. #BBCQT

Why is the obvious choice of a #WealthTax still being dodged? A wealth tax, as well as fairer taxes on corporate profiteers and highest earners, would deliver far more money than any cuts to benefits and public services. Workers and communities need the government to fight their corner.

BREAKING: The people with extraordinary sums of potentially taxable wealth have explained there is simply no alternative to brutal benefits cuts x

Bizarre. Even in meetings at Westminster today Ministers were unwilling to admit that benefit cuts will increase poverty DWP doc, published by govt, page 4: "there will be an additional 250,000 people (including 50,000 children) in relative poverty" assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/67e3fa...

So the UK economic prediction for 2030 is that the poorest 95% of people will be poorer than they are today, and the poorest 33% of people will lose twice as much as the average of the 62% above them. Gains for the 95-99% will be 10-20%,while the 1% will get 100% richer.

😢😢😢

An image I created a while back to illustrate global warming. Looking at the early morning ice melting on our circular garden table made me think of the continent of Africa slowly disappearing. (Europe has already sunk!)

Labour has declared WAR on the sick and disabled. Absolutely disgusting, and we deserve so much better.

MP Salary - almost 94k per year Sick and disabled benefits - going as low as 5.4k per year Meantime…potholes… #IHaveNoWords

NEW POLL🚨 •65% agree that ‘I would have more trust in politicians if the government delivered better quality public services’ •71% agree that ‘the wealthy should pay more tax to fund decent public services’

BREAKING 🚨 Can you guess which 5 MPs have taken the highest total donations from people+companies linked to the private health sector between 2023-2025? 1. Wes Streeting - £179,575 2. Yvette Cooper - £165,439 3. Shabana Mahmood - £136,168 4. Tom Tugendhat - £106,297 5. Rachel Reeves - £94,043 ...
