At night I write poetry and prose, write songs and paint (mainly in watercolours). I also like to play the guitar, badly, which makes the members of my band, The Fractal Cats, laugh. My academic posts are at @profpaulglover.bsky.social

This is quite an old poem, but it expresses my feelings this morning. Thank you 'you' for helping without knowing it. @poetrysociety.bsky.social @poetrydaily.bsky.social @onlypoemsmag.bsky.social @andotherpoems.bsky.social @moistpoetryjournal.bsky.social @paulsonnentag.bsky.social

King Charles’ favourite painting ~ “you can literally feel yourself there, under the canopy of those trees rustling in the wind, with the clouds & shafts of sun scudding across that heavenly Wharfedale landscape” (Rex Vicat Cole, Storiths, Wharfedale) www.countrylife.co.uk/articles/fav...

Here is ginger again - another weekend watercolour. @awatercolouraday.bsky.social @number10cat.bsky.social @elidanza.bsky.social @catsofyore.bsky.social @catsinaction.bsky.social @catart.bsky.social

Deciphering an early-Renaissance painting ~ in this Annunciation by Petrus Christus (1445), the artist’s botanical precision enables us to identity of 12 varieties of plant, and their religious/social significance ~ see detailed key at R www.metmuseum.org/toah/works-o...

A bluecat in ink from my catweekend. I finished off the eyes with a coat of clear nail polish so they glint like the original (not actually blue!) @awatercolouraday.bsky.social @number10cat.bsky.social @elidanza.bsky.social @catsofyore.bsky.social @catsinaction.bsky.social @catart.bsky.social l

... and here is the song track of the poem Lighthouses. Thanks to the Fractal Cats and Alice W for making the track possible. Done on a shoestring (with a shoestring) with the free online Musicaa drummachine & the crackle glaze distortion was accidental but nice. soundcloud.com/p-w-j-glover...

Perfection in a flower - Milkflower of the snows! paulglover.uk/2025/02/09/p...

Its Spring (almost) so I thought I would paint daffodils!

Ever felt like an isolated lighthouse at a party, winking at the crowd but being seemingly ignored?

Last year I went on a paint your own icon course on York. Last weekend I finally got around to gilding it. Here is the result. I kept telling myself that rubbish gilding just makes the icon look old an worn :) #paintingicons @catholicnewssvc.bsky.social @iconpainter.bsky.social

Possibly the best painter of light in waves there has ever been Karl Theodor Boehme, Germany (1866-1939) @seascapesart.bsky.social

It is February and I have to watch my feet to not crush the snowdrops in Ryedale. Here is a sketch done recently. @galanthus.bsky.social @awatercolouraday.bsky.social @snowdropiris.bsky.social

This huge painting of a Norwegian Fjord by Adelsteen Norman (1848-1918) is one of my favourites at Leeds City Art Gallery.

Interesting and concerning, but even before the dawn of archaeology, it was widely accepted that visualisations of the past were highly fraught and needed to be treated with caution. www.cam.ac.uk/research/new... May be AI is just an old wolf in new clothes.

THis post is out of season, but a new subscriber to my blog (paulglover.uk) put me in mind of it when she admitted to being a tree lover. Perhaps poetree ?! @treelover4.bsky.social @poetrydaily.bsky.social @ofpoetrypodcast.bsky.social @glasspoetry.bsky.social @moistpoetryjournal.bsky.social

Here is another of my paintings of pelargoniums, towards the end of summer. Watercolour and the leaves have had at least 20 thin layers of paint to try to bring out the depth of their hues. @pelargonium.bsky.social

Garlic, ink & watercolour on watercolour paper. From June 2024 #Art #FoodArt #Watercolour #Watercolor #Garlic

Constrained to painting indoors - here is a Pelargonium by my damp window. @pelargonium.bsky.social @awatercolouraday.bsky.social @althurayya.bsky.social

Early 20C post-impressionist artist Ethel Carrick travelled widely between Europe & Australia. Here’s some of her glowing, light-filled work ~ The French Flower Market / The Quay at Dinard / Christmas Day at Manly / On Balmoral Beach

The censorship and propaganda gas begun - so all of us must shout louder.

Art is all around you, and you do not even have to commit it to paper - just observe and imagine what you see as art.

I have just got back from rerecording and remixing "You" with Alice. It is not finished yet, quite, but here is a degraded 96kbit version as a taster that I have uploaded to Soundcloud! soundcloud.com/p-w-j-glover...

This January is perhaps the most apposite time to consider the old line "To be or not to be. That is the question." Here is some help and I hope it makes people smile www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEs8...

Sadly, someone was killed in a high speed car chase yesterday new where I live. So much sympathy for the family and the police who try to keep us safe. @poetrysociety.bsky.social @poetrydaily.bsky.social @poetrywithlinda.bsky.social @poetry-enthusiast.bsky.social @poeticalphotos.bsky.social

... and here is the poem that lies behind the lyrics to the song in the last post. The view from the top of the mountain in the new dawn - whether your worries are global, national or personal at the moment - there will be a new dawn.

The Fractal Cats and I have rereleased our song Keep on Keepin' On! to cheer people up in this, the darkest of times. soundcloud.com/p-w-j-glover... Let's stop examining our shoes and shaking our heads and shout the truth and dance!

Increasingly I now post my poems, art and songs on Bluesky, but there is a whole load of archived stuff also on my blogsite if you are interested. It would be great to have more visitors :) paulglover.uk

This is probably my favourite. Cows seem to have such internal grace and unassuming presence. The quiet rebel cow eschews just the earing and adds a necklace as well!

Brilliance from Tom Gauld again!

The Sleeping Beauty- my latest cartoon for @theguardian.com

Actually, Vermeer went to the zoo the day he had that pearl earing painting on his mind. I think that camels are perhaps the funniest animals of all. @thecamelsnose.bsky.social @badgertracks.bsky.social

Some people do not realise that Vermeer had many attempts before he got the pearl earing painting right! @raccoonhourly.bsky.social @artinsociety.bsky.social

I hear that fridgescaping was now a thing. Here is my first attempt. Can anyone spot the climbers in the icebox?

We tend to assume that the earlier we go back in time, the simpler the art becomes. The truth is that the depth of the human spirit has not changed, so why should art. I would take the 30,000 yr old Chauvet Cave Lions over the medieval lion or Picasso's (some wonderful modern lion paintings exist).
