I really enjoyed the swings #28YearsLater took. The story evolves the ideas of the story original and poses some questions that linger for a while. It does suffer from feeling like the beginning a part one, but on the strength of this roll on The Bone Temple.

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/06/elio... #Elio

#Elio might just be the best Pixar film since Inside Out. It’s often funny, very thrilling and has moments that are very moving. It shows that even the biggest outsider can find community and that our complications make us who we are. Okay bye I love you.

Did you see the new #JohnWick spinoff Ballerina this weekend? What did you think of it? Find out what we thought in @paulkleinyo.bsky.social’s review: filmhounds.co.uk/2025/06/ball...

Maybe it helped that I saw it with my six year old but I was charmed by #HowToTrainYourDragon. The score is lush, there’s good emotion, it’s exciting. My only real gripe is that toothless looks too cartoony compared to the other dragons, but it’s fun and doesn’t diminish the OG.

#BallerinaMovie is at times fun and at other times poorly edited. The Wick world is such a great sandbox but Len Wiseman isn’t the director to play in that box. De Armas is great in the lead and the support are fun, but it spins its wheels until a thrilling third act.

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/05/the-... #TheLifeofChuck

The depth of compassion in #TheLifeofChuck didn’t fully hit me until I was on the train home. A film full of little moments of joy that make up the universe that is life. Flanagan continues his exploration of life itself and Mark Hamill delivers one of the years best speeches.

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/05/a-fi... #missionimpossiblethefinalreckoming

#MissionImpossibleTheFinalReckoning is a disappointment. Great stunts (duh) but no character or story investment. Lots of wtf moments, weird editing, questionable story choices and a tired plot. Feels like a first draft filmed in a hurry.

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/05/fina... #FinalDestination

Mixing great direction, inventive kills and a solid story #FinalDestinationBloodlines is the best the franchise has been. Gleefully gory and knows when to let a scene sit and build tension. I laughed, I clapped and a great final appearance for Tony Todd.

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/04/thun... #Thunderbolts

moviemarker.co.uk/what-the-28-... Made my debut at @moviemarker.bsky.social talking about this fantastic series and it's comments on British society.

For me #Thunderbolts worked because it peeled back layers on a subject I have long fought with. Florence Pugh continues to be a stand out. I laughed but I also cried at a story I think people will relate to. Weird in places, in the best way. I can’t wait to see it again.

#Sinners is the best film of the year so far. Drenched in horror, thrills and black humour. Sequences that left me grinning from pure joy. Flawless cast. The score is phenomenal. Loved every sweat drenched moment.

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/04/the-...

I don’t think #DeathofaUnicorn is as sharp as a horn, but I enjoyed it. Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega carry the film and the splattery gore is terrific fun. The political jabs aren’t that new or incisive but the creature feature aspects are what make the movie.

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/03/snow... #SnowWhite

I may regret saying this but #SnowWhite is solid. I really enjoyed the musical numbers, particularly the opening one and the Queen's evil bop. Zegler was great in the lead role, and Gadot was fun. It's really the CGI dwarves that let the film down. The choice is baffling. (Please don’t send hate)

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/03/the-... #MarchingPowder

I really think we should all look at how we talk to each other. Even I’m guilty of it. Sometimes our to r doesn’t always seem polite

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/03/mick... #Mickey17

Nothing fills me with more joy than a director like Bong Joon-Ho doing weird things like #Mickey17 . Pattinson is at his best in this wacky black comedy that I felt had the style of Bong but maybe a little watered down for a western audience.I don’t mind as long as he keeps going

The ITV coverage is awful. Just hating every film, insulting acting and defending AI. Do better ITV, get some actual journalists of film

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/02/my-d... #MyDeadFriendZoe

Well now… #TheMonkey is a hoot! Perkins delivers a splatter filled tour-de-force anchored by a very good Theo James. I also thought Tatiana Maslany was great. Perkins weaves an off kilter tale with his framing and sound design. Splatstick and enjoyable.

Capeshit and slop are lovely identifiers that the person talking is in fact an idiot

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/02/yell... Happy Valentine’s Day to me #yellowjackets

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/02/capt... #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld

Mixing a terrific score with a nice conspiracy plot #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld thrilled me. It’s not on par with TWS, but it builds the intrigue with great support - especially a fully game Harrison Ford. Flawed, but I really enjoyed the hell out of it.

I think there needs to be more community within film journalism. There’s far too much separation.

“I’m perfectly happy watching others live a life that should be mine”

“Community”

Go into #CompanionMovie blind. It’s a riot of a time, and much like Barbarian I knew very little and that just made it all the better. All I’ll say is, terrific fun and Sophie Thatcher continues to just smash it. One of the best actors in the genre imo.

I still think a MH service for freelancers would be a good idea

filmhounds.co.uk/2025/01/star...

Anyway if you feel like watching a Nazi get fucked up all five Indy films are on Disney+

I think what I liked most about #WolfMan was the body horror. It was properly gnarly, and Whannell had full control of his medium. The slow painful transformation works, even if the film doesn’t fully examine its ideas. Still I’m always seated for an interesting take on a classic

Redoing The Last Of Us S1 and goddamn they just smashed this out the park

Social media is obviously vital to a career in media, helps to connect and network, spread your work, but it is getting more aggressive and hostile. I just hope people can spread a little more kindness
