New Orleans - new edition is online now.

Calm down, Spelling Bee

The people in old movies who bring the "help wanted" sign in with them, why are you doing that, don't do that, that's weird, don't touch my stuff

I recently met one of my oldest friend's kids, who has become a cool, urbane young adult. Within an hour of meeting them, we went out to walk the dog and I immediately and spectacularly slipped and fell down a big muddy hill, so I felt that at least they got a good encapsulation of my character.

New Orleans! New issue up, lots of good stuff this week.

I was dimly (me being dim) aware of alt text, but Manning is doing a great job of explaining its uses. It’s easy, takes a few seconds to implement and instantly makes your posts more accessible. I’m sure I’m not perfect, but I hope I’m improving - please think about using it!

Hey babe, no, you stay in bed, I’ll bring us breakfast…how do you like your eggs?

Forever chemicals to be replaced with subscription-based chemicals that you can never own

This looks like the opening to a bayou-based Eggers film. The Svvamp?

Travel book rec: I’m really enjoying this by @douglasmack.bsky.social - I recently went to St Croix and the first chapter gave me a lot of great context. Doug’s a really entertaining writer and the mix of history/politics/everyday life is great.

Sitting in a booth in a lounge at Helsinki Airport and suddenly noticed that they were playing some very avant- garde flute music. Got up to get a drink and…

Love the first morning at a hotel breakfast. Just people watching, trying to figure out who the other guests are, why they're here, and in what idiosyncratic ways I will come to loathe them.

Give a man mashed potato and he will eat for a day, teach a man to mash potato and he will love you - now that he can dance - watch me now.

tik tok this tik tok that why don’t you tik this as a sign to go tok to your friends

The original 1922 Nosferatu was essentially "We don't need any Dracula, we have Dracula at home."

I got stuck in Gulfport Mississippi for the night and the airline put me up in a nearby motel. Saw it was opposite a thrift store, thought it was worth a look this morning, maybe there’ll be some hidden ge…..oh

New video by me for @outalldaynola.bsky.social - Walt Disney and New Orleans: A brief history youtu.be/kwyh_ndBtFI?...

New book out. If you like the awkwardness of Curb/Sedaris/Mark Corrigan off of Peep Show, etc, you might like it (I’m not putting myself on that level, just ballparking the tone). Links to buy for US/UK below, last year was financially rough so I’m sincerely grateful if you care to take a look.

Unless there’s a late entry, I saw 221 films this year, up quite a lot from 138 last year. The only real identifiable trend from two years of data: my rewatchable, comfort films are apparently Waking Life and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Die Hard 2 is a Boxing Day movie (traditional)

You will be visited by three spirits

He's hiring a ship He's packing his cloak He's moving to England To follow some bloke Dracula is coming to town

‘Conclave’ sounds like a movie they’d go to see in Seinfeld

I regret to announce the closure of my restaurant chain that exclusively employed servers with a single large breast.
