Richard Attenborough started it at the opening of Capital Radio in 1973 followed by Terry Smith at Radio City (Liverpool) in 1974, Graham Dene at Boom Radio 4 years ago today, then Nicky. All saying “for the VERY first time”. Tautological. A redundant word. Just saying. I’m a journalistic pedant.

Thank you, Matt. Much appreciated.

Fascinating statistics, Matt. Do you have the top half of the table i.e. the top 50. I can roughly work out the top dozen from the Rajar stats, but I’d appreciate seeing the full table for London or showing me where I (and others) can access it.

Wigan Athletic’s 1st double of the season after 4-0 away win in Sept. James Carragher’s 1st career goal in his 17th league appearance for #wafc. Dad Jamie managed just 3 goals in 508 Premier League apps for Liverpool though the 1st was in his 2nd game in 3-0 win over Aston Villa this month in 1997.

Wigan Athletic’s 2-1 victory at Stevenage means they’ve now beaten EVERY team they’ve met in the Football League and the Premier League, 105 teams in total. Stevenage did the double over #wafc last season, and drew 0-0 at the Brick in September.

I worked with Denis on Match Time + Match Night on Granada TV between 1981-83. A brilliant footballer but unlike today’s pundits he didn’t like publicly criticising other players, most of whom weren’t as good as him. A true gent. RIP The Lawman. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footba...

Thank you to whoever recommended the Kenny Everett Radio Bristol shows on BBC Sounds. Bloody Kenny, making me snigger out loud on the bus

This Kenny Everett Show on Radio Bristol has been cleaned up and it’s a really good listen. No radio station would allow a show like this now. (Also, I didn’t know ‘Puppet Man’ by Tom Jones, but instantly realised that Corduroy had lifted it for ‘London, England’.) www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Johnnie Walker, the DJ who continued broadcasting aboard Radio Caroline Sputv on August 14,1967 defying the Marine Offences Act which outlawed pirate radio, leaving this 12-year old in tears. Half a century later I thanked him at the Offshore 50 reunion. “For no man will ever forget … “ RIP JW

If you missed the 3 Kenny Everett shows from Radio Bristol from 1971, broadcast during Christmas week on Radio 4 Extra, they’re now in one place on BBC Sounds. Also available, my two Cuddly Ken documentaries : “The BBC Local Radio Years” + “Happy Birthday Maurice Cole”. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/serie...

37-year old Steven Fletcher’s stoppage-time winner for @Wrexham_AFC is his 8th goal v Wigan Athletic for 5 clubs over 15 years, having previously scored for Burnley (1) Wolves (2) + Sunderland (3) in the Premier League + Sheffield Wednesday (1) in the Championship. #wafc.

These are glorious (thanks for the nod, @maxtundra.com)

Lift Up Your Hearts. Jack De Manio. Daily Service. Alvar Lidell. Music and Movement. William Hardcastle. Afternoon Theatre. Anona Winn. Listen With Mother. Gale Pedrick. Workers’ Playtime. This is so good! And very funny, love how he plays Too Many People before the interview with John!

This is brilliant. And it's lovely to hear contemporaneous positivity for Ram!

Yes, Ann. I’ve been on Radio 4 Extra every day this week at 1000, 1600, and midnight with my two documentaries on Monday and Christmas Day, and introducing the three Radio Bristol programmes on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and yesterday. All are still on BBC Sounds.

John Lennon interview from 1971. Not heard this before! Starts 18 minutes in.

An unmissable long-lost work of genius from the greatest radio producer/DJ to ever do it. Just deranged levels of creativity throughout. (And the Lennon interview is a peach!)

It is timeless. Kenny Everett loved songs with melody. Lots of Beatles, Beach Boys, Harry Nilsson, Cat Stevens, Gilbert O’Sullivan, Fifth Dimension, Bread, Simon and Garfunkel. Mama Cass, Smokey Robinson, Martha Reeves, and Colin Blunstone. Class. Quality. Proper DJ playing proper stuff.

Thanks, Ann. I’m delighted you enjoyed them. Kenny Everett lived near Llandovery when he was finally allowed back on Radio 1 in 1973. His programmes were recorded at his home studio at a farm Gwarllwyn in Pentre-ty-Gwyn, having moved from Cowfold in Sussex where he recorded his Radio Bristol shows.

That’s easy for you to say, Ann. I hope you enjoyed the week of Kenny Everett programmes on BBC Radio 4 Extra.

Listening to BBC Radio4 extra. It has Kenny Everett on BBC Radio Bristol. The man was a genius and a superb radio DJ

I’ve digitally remastered another of Kenny Everett’s Radio Bristol programmes, being broadcast today on Radio 4 Extra at 1000, 1600 + midnight. It’s a work of art + includes an interview with John Lennon not heard since it went out on July 3, 1971. Now on BBC Sounds. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Today I have been, mostly, listening to old Kenny Everett shows thanks to BBC sounds and Radio 4extra. As big an influence on forming my sense of humour as Spike Milligan, with much of the same manic energy. Happy Eternal birthday for yesterday Ken!

Well worth a listen ... .. a rare treat from Kenny Everett (genius broadcaster),.. from Boxing Day 1971 ... www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

I’ve digitally remastered Kenny Everett’s Boxing Day show on BBC Radio Bristol from 1971. It’s being broadcast today on Radio 4 Extra at 1000, 1600 + midnight + BBC Sounds. It includes a Christmas appeal to Radio 1 to reinstate him after his sacking the previous year. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Kenny Everett is playing stuff from 1971 (always a blank spot year for me). The historical bits that stick out is that releases in stereo are still quite new & Kenny loves tracks with a good dynamic range (his words) & with a Moog on, "that machine wil revolutionise music" he says. #radio #1971

Radio genius Kenny Everett was born 80 years ago this week. The documentary The Local Radio Years tells the story of Kenny’s time making shows for BBC local radio in the early 70s after his sacking from Radio 1. Made in 2001 by @paulrowleyradio.com it’s now on BBC Sounds https://buff.ly/4fvJLob

I had forgotten how amazingly talented Kenny Everett was. So much work for a show that would have only a tiny regional audience. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

A brilliant documentary about Cuddly Ken, plus various other programmes available on BBC Sounds to celebrate what would have been the 80th birthday of Kenny Everett. I loved listening to Captain Kremmen on Radio City many years ago, & had a 'World's Most Fabulous Man' t-shirt. #Comedy #Radio

Lots of Kenny Everett on R4 Extra this week, including complete Radio Bristol shows from 1971 when he was smuggled back onto the Beeb Beeb Ceeb via local radio having been sacked from the new Radio 1 for a joke. He was just so, so good on air,

Over on BBC Sounds is this absolute treat- a whole hour of Kenny Everett doing a show for BBC Radio Bristol in 1971. Do yourselves a favour and have a listen. The music is amazing. The presentation is remarkable. The compressed VHF sound of it is proustian www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Kenny Everett would be 80 years old today, Britains most versatile and inventive DJ, his early life story👍🎧🙂 www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Just turned on the radio and BBC Radio 4 extra and they're playing Vintage Kenny Everett from his DJ days. Dear Kenny. Always a pleasure. #radio #UK

Listening to a tribute to Kenny Everett on BBC R4 XTRA. He was a radio genius!!

Kenny Everett was born on this day 80 years ago. To mark the event Radio 4 Extra is broadcasting my 2009 documentary “Happy Birthday Maurice Cole” (his real name) at 1000, 1600 + midnight. I went back to the house where he was born and made his first tapes. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
