Former MSP & Minister in Scottish Government until 2021. Focus on Energy & Environmental policy, not politics, these days. Sports fan. Live on beautiful #CostaDelBerwickshire☀️, Scottish Borders, South of Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇪🇺 Opinions are my own, not my employer’s.

"History will remember this day— when an American President and Vice President abandoned all we stand for."

Says it all.

I have covered presidential politics for 40 years. This was the most juvenile display by a President and Vice President I have ever seen. Other presidents treated their enemies with more respect. This is a low point and a dark day for the US. Totally embarrassing.

Pass it on. #StandWithUkraine

I stand with Ukraine 🇺🇦 and President Zelensky in any stance he has to take against the Worst POTUS 🍊in US history - the latter is a disgrace & seems, in holding Ukraine to ransom over mineral rights, to be acting mire like a gangster and an enemy of freedom (and as a puppet of Putin).

Who benefits from renewables? The Scottish Government is updating its Good Practice Principles—we need voices from rural & urban areas, those receiving community benefits & those missing out. Join our webinar 6 March, 2PM & have your say! Sign up: www.eventbrite.com/e/community-...

I really do feel incredibly sorry for all those in the US who voted for Harris and yet ended up instead with Trump & RFK Jr in charge of 🇺🇸health policy. This 👀👇is a poignant reminder of tragic deaths among kids before measles vaccines became the norm. Does the US really want to go back to this? 🤦‍♂️

JD Vance lied blatantly about the Scottish abortion clinic buffer zone law. It does NOT prohibit Christians from praying within their own homes.

Grateful to the legend that is Susie Dent for supplying yet another way to describe the current President of the US. 👀👇

In a word, “No”! As a renewables rich nation, already able to more than meet its needs, and with a huge development pipeline of lower cost and sustainable options to come, Scotland neither needs more nuclear power, nor wants its ☢️ waste here. No way, Jose! www.heraldscotland.com/news/2491927...

Scotland has vast renewable energy resources, and the talent and innovation to harness them. I saw this in action at the world-leading H100 project in Methil, Fife - where hundreds of homes are switching from gas to green hydrogen for zero-carbon heating. Here’s how 👇

Storm Éowyn is 💯 no damp squib & red alerts were fully justified. Power cuts in my village & beyond on the #CostaDelBerwickshire☀️. Looking like a 24 hour recovery, but as ever, I am thinking of the SPEN engineers & their courage in the risky work to reconnect us all. Thank you & get home safe! 🙏

NEW: 2024 has just been confirmed as the warmest year on record, and the first to breach the 1.5C threshold. We used a ridgeline (Joy Division inspired) chart to visualise daily temperature anomalies since 1940. 2024 clearly stands out with 100% of its days above 1.3C and 75% above 1.5C.

Word of the Day is one I keep posting at the end of the year, hoping its time will come. ‘Respair’, from the 16th century, is fresh hope, and a recovery from despair. Here’s to a few drops of respair in 2025.

Astronomy friends, what night sky events are you looking forward to in 2025? 🔭 In 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 we've got 2 lovely total lunar eclipses (14 Mar & 7 Sept) and a 40% partial solar eclipse (29 Mar). I'm also super excited about Saturn temporarily losing it's rings in March 🤓 📷 Kevin Earp @astrokev.bsky.social

It is only 7 days until Christmas but our 1st day on BlueSky!🥳 We asked Team SOSE what Christmas gifts they have picked up from across the South of Scotland this year. 🎁 What gifts are you picking up? For more ideas⬇️ scotlandstartshere.com/things-to-do #ScotlandStartsHere #ShopLocal #Scotland

The Dawn of a New Day - up and about this AM in bonnie Ayton, Berwickshire, Scottish Borders in the beautiful South of Scotland. Given named Storm ‘Darragh’ is approaching this weekend, I am hoping the impacts on all in #CostaDelBerwickshire, the South of Scotland & beyond are minimal.

#StormDarragh has been named and is forecast to bring very strong winds and heavy rain to the UK later on Friday and through the weekend #WeatherAware ⚠️

Wishing everyone who lives in Scotland, or has a connection to this beautiful country of ours 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, a wonderful St Andrew’s Day - this year, for me, it will also be a day to remember & be grateful for those who gave their all for Scotland, but who are sadly no longer here to celebrate with us. 🙏

Back from the funeral of one of our campaign team from my days in politics. A kind, smart & generous soul & ex-farmer, he’d be on duty in all weathers with our stall set up before anyone could help him, & was great for morale - indeed his humour came across 💪 in his Eulogy. Rest in peace, Charlie🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

After the last few days, dealing with a real health emergency in my family, I again thank my lucky ✨ we have Scotland’s National Health Service, that it remains free @ the point of use & has kind, dedicated & well-trained staff. Please, folks, let’s never take what we have for granted.

I don’t know if I have missed it completely, but enjoying catching up on others posting pictures of themselves from different eras. Here’s one of me in 1974 or about a year after moving to Scotland from NI. My pal Jonny and I used to be the toughest cowboys in Cramond, Edinburgh, quite clearly! 😂

@lenniesaurus.bsky.social Thanks for The Arts Mix today on Radio Scotland which I listened to on my way back from a meeting- really thought provoking discussion re Neil’s ‘Silent Men’, & Carys’ novel, too. You really brought out the best from both guests. Well done - it was 1st class broadcasting.👏

Andy Robertson’s late header in Poland gifts Scotland Nations League lifeline

I’m still absolutely buzzing from that late win against Poland. What an amazing performance, with two brilliant 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 goals (Poland’s was also a cracker). Scotland (Fifa ranking 51 in 🌍) were written off by many, yet grabbed 7 points from last 9 playing against 7th🇵🇹, 12th🇭🇷& 31st🇵🇱 ranked teams in 🌍. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👏😁

As one of their honorary fellows, I am really delighted to see Scottish Environment Link has also joined Bluesky - they are the key network of organisations striving to protect our natural environment. Please consider following them & supporting their vital work: bsky.app/profile/scot...
