Two open positions for a lab manger and a laboratory technician. Applications from displaced federal employees are welcome. Lab manager position: www.ugajobsearch.com/postings/410... Lab tech position: www.ugajobsearch.com/postings/391... Please email [email protected] if you have questions

We've got an exciting (funded) opportunity for someone who wants to undertake a PhD in plant sciences -you'll work with the international #LEAF team on an Artemis III deployed instrument to understand how plants and their cell walls respond to lunar gravity. #plantsci #glycotime #space 🚀🌱

Exactly. International scientific collaboration and basic research saves lives and is essential to our well-being

U.S. citizens are not stupid. They are standing up for their rights. Many Republicans are angry at cuts to veterans, science etc. without congressional approval. We will continue to stand up and fight. Remember March 7 is the day we will all stand up for science. standupforscience2025.org

Do it. It’s easy.

PLOS has issued a statement on recent US Executive Orders and scientific integrity. We are determined to stand firmly behind our mission, our values and our principles, and against any attempt at censorship or undermining of the core principles of scientific inquiry. plos.io/3D4O8cH

Congrats to Brandon, who was a wonderful mentor to me

HECK YEAH. Brandon Gaut honored with the GSA mentorship award. Hard to imagine a better mentor. Scientifically I am where I am today in large part thanks to Brandon. But personally too -- he played a pivotal role in multiple major life milestones for my family. genestogenomes.org/congratulati...

Brilliant and hard working former postdoc from my lab (plant and microbial molecular genetics) was just laid off from her job at the USDA. She is looking for job. You would love to have her in your lab. Pls share. Pls let me know if you have position

Instead of cuts we should look for ways to enhance university-federal government partnerships so research can thrive in the years ahead. Great explanatory video on “Facilities and Administrative costs” and what the proposed F and A cuts would mean for our nations research.

NIH-supported research saves lives: here are two "poster" human beings to prove it. Emily Whitehead: cured of her leukemia by CAR-T developed at Penn. Victoria Gray: major symptoms of her sickle cell disease resolved following CRISPR gene editing - path paved at Boston Childrens, UW, UC Berkeley.

Thanks Carl. A wonderful explanation of why many of us choose science

It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.

this website shows you how many jobs NIH funding creates for your state along with the overall economic activity generated www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...

What does NIH do for you? Here is the answer for California. Slashing scientific research and funds for university costs sends us backwards

Here is a letter that I modified for California representatives :

Congress must vote to reject these cuts as they did during the chaos of Trump1. NSF funds basic scientific research. Alongside the NOH & DOE, it has been an engine of discovery and innovation that has led to the technological superiority of the United States government and its industries.

I am really frustrated that the press is discussing the destruction of USAID as something that has happened rather than an illegal action that will likely be undone in two weeks when courts tell the world that it was illegal.

This is the best summary of the science funding situation that I’ve seen. There's a lot of money involved, but of the entire $1.7 trillion HHS budget, 50% of that is Medicare, 33% of it is Medicaid. NIH spends $46 billion, the CDC spends $13.5 billion & NSF spends $9 billion. Those $ are our future

The NSF is the US engine of basic science discovery and technology innovation. This decision is a gift to our overseas competitors.

That grant will float right to the top of the NSF pile. Well done.

New podcast! Visit these 15 ecosystems with prof. Mark schwartz. I’m looking forward to it

Thank you Jennifer and other Nobel Laureates for standing up for U.S. science, which is the world leader in making discoveries that benefit all of us

Checkout Alexander’s thread describing his exciting new paper that demonstrates the combination of machine learning with large directed evolution data sets to accurately predict phenotype from genotype. Congratulations to Alexander on leading this work. We are lucky to have him on the team.

Food production & consumption account for 1/3 of all greenhouse gas emissions, cause global biodiversity loss, and for deteriorations in water, soil, and air quality. Meat, dairy, &other animal-sourced foods having larger environmental footprints than plant-based foods. www.pnas.org/post/update/...

Happy Lunar New Year 2025 @science.org

There is no reason why we shouldn't expect a statement like this from every governor, including Republicans. This action illegally freezes money that Congress has already budgeted for people in their states.

Hi all-if you are pissed off about NIH/NSF freezes, please consider joining us on this letter: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Done

Reiterating my call to fellow federally-funded scientists: Call your reps, tell them how this hurts science and everything good that comes from science (Also non-scientists, and scientists without federal funding! But the more of us who can directly speak to the impacts of these freezes the better)

IS-MPMI 2025 abstract submission is open! Submit to our concurrent session "Spatial & Temporal Resolution of the Interaction Interface" if your research explores heterogeneity or spatiotemporal dynamics in plant-microbe interactions. Due March 11. See you in Cologne! www.ismpmi.org/Events/2025C...

Very useful set of papers. Scientists often feel stupid. We tolerate that feeling because the process of discovery is exciting.

If you're a scientist that serves on an NSF panel that got cancelled today, I'd love to talk to you about it for an NPR story. DM, email or reach out on signal.

The researchers compiled PRR and NLR genes from 808 angiosperms living in habitats with low pathogen burdens. They observe a contraction in NLRs and PRRs. They also established the Angiosperm Immune Receptor Database (AirDB) to serve the plant R gene community. Thanks!

I ran @USAID health programs for the last 3 years. Trump’s 90 day Stop Work Order on foreign assistance does serious damage to the world and the US. Examples:🧵
