All of Trump's musings about the Gilded Age now make sense. There were no income taxes in the Gilded Age. He wants to replace income tax revenue with tariffs. That's why we're tariffing our 3 main trading partners. There was no social welfare in the Gilded Age, and that's where DOGE comes in.

When you consider the tariffs and Trump's musings about the greatness of the Gilded Age, you can see where this is going: They want to end or drastically reduce income taxes, and the social safety net (Social Security, Medicare, Mediaid) paid for with income taxes. They want to erase the New Deal.
