Our diversity is what makes the U.S. strong. It is our superpower. It is heartbreaking, and in some cases life threatening, that this Administration doesn't see that we're better when we value, respect, and support ALL people. #CBPPJointAddress #LibertyAndJusticeForAll

The President left out "for the wealthy' when talking about the tax cuts he supports. His proposals, which are included in the House budget resolution, cut taxes for the top 1% and pay for it by cutting food assistance and Medicaid. #CBPPJointAddress

As we listen to President Trump paint a dark & misleading picture about immigrants in his joint address to Congress, I’m reminded that our lives are interconnected with immigrants in direct & indirect ways.

A balanced budget? The House Budget Resolution’s tax cuts are so large that even with massive cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and student loans the budget would INCREASE the deficit. #CBPPJointAddress

How can HUD commit to having staff do this work, which helps create affordable housing, when they reportedly plan to cut staffing in half? It’s grants like this that keeps the federal workforce lean & mean. www.housingfinance.com/news/housing...

HHS makes decisions that affect the health & wellbeing of every one of us. This allows the Administration to make sweeping, reckless changes to policies at a moment’s notice w/out input from people who should have a voice: patients, parents, doctors, caregivers, and others.

Don’t let anyone tell you this bill would not harm people by taking away food assistance, health coverage and other important services from people who need them. All in service of giving wealthy people tax cuts.

The math isn't mathing! Check out this blog by my colleague @gbenga-ajilore.bsky.social. The House plan would harm the economy, increase the deficit, and hurt millions of families by cutting things like food assistance and access to health insurance.

This Rachel Siegel @washingtonpost.com article highlights the depth of what HUD staff do. Dedicated public servants protect how tax dollars are spent. Cuts undermine our ability to do things like get to the day when everyone has access to #affordablehousing. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

As David Brooks & @jonathancapehart.bsky.social explain, people don’t want cuts to important programs like #SNAP which helps people afford food. www.pbs.org/newshour/sho...

I’m hearing that the SAMHSA suicide 988 hotline has removed protections for gender-affirming care. Your gender may not be respected or recognized. We need to make sure to widely share Trans Lifeline instead: 877-565-8860 pflag.org/resource/sup...

Why make it harder for people & their kids to eat? To give wealthy people and corporations trillions in tax cuts? Come on Man! Sadly this isn’t a joke. This is the Republicans’ well-documented plan. #Project2025

People aren’t paid enough by their jobs or gov’t benefits to afford basic needs. For ex, if you pay 50% or more of your income on rent, like over 12 million do, you likely need food asst & Medicaid to make ends meet. We need to make these programs stronger, not erode them.

HUD staffers reporting “pauses” on grant funding. These funds help #unhoused people , cities rebuild communities, and support increasing housing supply. All pieces needed for strong communities. This is the exact OPPOSITE of what gov’t should be doing. t.co/D91FHeUVKT

Disruptions to community health center payments can impact over 30 million patients according to the Nat’l Assoc of Community Health Centers including people receiving care from health care for the homeless clinics @nhchc.bsky.social, clinics in rural & farm communities, & public housing residents.

So… here we go the budget plan process kicks off today with threatening families’ health insurance, food assistance, and other federal help.

Really enjoyed this conversation. Government has a responsibility to take care of people who have the least. Budget and policy decisions dictate if we can live up to this challenge.

It is important to understand that the OMB letter was just one way #Medicaid programs and access to health care are under threat. In the days and weeks ahead, Congress and the Administration may take actions that take health insurance away from families.

Every child deserves access to needed health care, including transgender youth. A Trump admin EO issued last night aims to ban transition-related care, deny coverage of it for children of federal workers and military service members, and target providers who offer this care.

Catholic social justice teaching is part of my personal building blocks. Looking forward to this conversation next week.

Whether leading OMB in the last Trump admin, developing conservative budgets, or contributing to Project 2025, OMB nom Russell Vought has supported policies that make it harder for families to afford health care, put food on the table, & keep a roof over their heads. www.cbpp.org/research/fed...

A unique and beautiful thing about the U.S. is our diversity. Diversity is something to be cultivated so that it can grow. Removing or threatening to remove these offices/policies/etc. weakens the nation’s ability to work for everyone. www.naacpldf.org/press-releas...

Many of these proposals go after the most vulnerable people in our society, including families with low incomes and children with disabilities.

HUD nominee Scott Turner will testify tomorrow at a time when more people than ever are experiencing homelessness and struggling to afford housing. Unfortunately, there’s a serious risk that the new Administration and Congress will make things worse. www.cbpp.org/blog/rising-...
