"Who publishes the sheet-music of the winds or the music of water written in river-lines?" Muir.

Good day...thought we'd do some black and white today.

Good day everyone...

Hope you all have a good day...

"When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else." Georgia O'Keefe Here are some flowers from our national parks.

"live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink the wild air." Ralph Waldo Emerson

Good day. I hope you were able to relax and rest this weekend.

I hope you all have a good day.

To rise and greet the sun is to being the day with the most steadfast companion.

good morning...

According to a September study published on The Matador Network, "visitors spent $644 million around Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina."

Let's start a week and try to muster some optimism. In the peaceful demonstrations over the weekend I saw many signs calling for "hands off" our national parks. Let's call our representatives in Congress to maintain protections of our forests, rivers, and public lands.

"You can go your own way." Lindsey Buckingham

I hope you can enjoy a weekend.

We all need a little beauty today. Here are some of the flowers you can find on Skyline Drive in our Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.

"Trails don't just take of themselves—park staff and volunteers work hard to keep trails safe for visitors....Some trails have historical significance, and other trails may affect important natural areas where endangered species live." National Park Service

Good morning. "...National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 28,599,634 visitors to national parks in the District of Columbia spent $600,600,000 in 2021. That spending resulted in 5,293 jobs and had a cumulative benefit to the District’s economy of $679,400,000. " @nationalparkfdn.bsky.social

A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that the 6.3 million visitors to Grand Canyon National Park in 2018 spent $947 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 12,558 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $1.2 billion.

Some good news. Courts have ordered the National Park Service to reinstate the 1000 personnel that the DOGE ordered fired. Let's hope some sanity prevails going forward. Remember, sometimes efficiency requires more staff not less. @altnps.bsky.social @nationalparkfdn.bsky.social

The roar of waves is really just the ocean's way of begging for your attention.

Here are some facts for you. The Park Service maintenance of Gettysburg has an estimated $92million dollars in "deferred maintenance and repairs." The park annual maintenance cost of $2.3 million dollars supports 742,000 recorded visits that bring approximately $79,000,000.00.

In 2023 the National Park Service recorded 2,947,503 visitors to Olympic National Park who spent an estimated $279,200,000.00 in neighboring communities. This supported an estimated local 2990 jobs and added more than $393,200,000.00 to the economy. @altnps.bsky.social @nationalparkfdn.bsky.social

In 2021 according to the National Park Service, national parks contributed $570 million dollars to the Texas economy. Hope these photos help you see why people would want to visit there.

As part of my continuing support to America's national parks while I share my photography, I am going to keep bringing facts to the fight. In 2022 visitors to Great Smoky Mountains National Park spent $2,100,000,000.00 in local communities.

The value of supporting America's public lands. An estimated $355,000,000,000.00 dollars across various sectors including manufacturing. RVs, boats, outdoor equipment, coffee mugs, t-shirts, the list goes on and on....

While not part of my national parks work, it is with some pride that I share one of my photos--taken while others were clam digging on the shores of the Pacific--will be featured on @canonusa.bsky.social "Spring Gallery" page. Thank you team CANON!

In 2017 "National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 192,906 visitors to Fort Frederica National Monument in 2016 spent $11.2 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 182 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $14.8 million."

According to a 2021 PEW article, "Outdoor recreation on lands managed by the Forest Service contributes more than $13 billion to the U.S. economy and supports over 205,000 jobs annually."

"...National Park Service (NPS) report shows that approximately 2.9 million visitors to Glacier National Park in 2022 spent an estimated $368 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 5,690 jobs ...a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $548 million."

One of my latest doom scrolling targets is the "NPS.GOV" website "planyourvisit" page where you can go to "alerts" and filter for "closure." This will show you on a dynamic basis what parks and visitor centers are open or closed. Please call your Congressmen and Senators. Support our parks.

“I encourage everybody to hop on Google and type in ‘national park’ in whatever state they live in and see the beauty that lies in their own backyard. It’s that simple.” — Jordan Fisher This is the Potomac river below Great Falls National Park.

Last year, Mount Rainier had 2,490,729 recorded visitors in 975,773 vehicles. Facilities require preventive and corrective maintenance. 6 full time park rangers were let go from Mount Rainier National Park--including the park's only plumber. Just gonna let that fact sit there....I guess.

Not all of America's National Parks are spectacular some are simply sublime. Prince William Forest Park, pictured here, in 2024 had more than 350000 recorded visits. Imagine the work needed to maintain a park with 16000 acres. Please help the Park Service and National Park Foundation.

The National Park Service never received optimum funding. Many groups like National Park Foundation, Yosemite Conservancy, Grand Canyon Conservancy, and Friends of Great Smoky Mountains National Park help our parks. Please help them help us. @altnps.bsky.social @nationalparks.bsky.social

On Fridays like to post flower photos. These are all flowers from our US National Parks. It is a shame they may not have rangers to tend, protect, and educate the public about them this summer.

I love to post photos of trails and tracks on Thursdays. I hope you can go into the wilderness and take time to recharge.

Have a good evening everyone.

The challenge of a shore is focus. Our senses are drawn everywhere all at once. Overwhelmed and yet calmed within the same space-time. Where to look and be awed next is the continuous question.
