A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers I've seen this listed as a huge comfort read, but there's an uneasiness to it for me. Dax & Mosscap travel through this utopian landscape, & yet there's so much internal turmoil. If there is a third book, I'm not sure where it will go. 🪐📚💙 #specfic #sff

dang patreon kind of blowin it for THE TINGLEVERSE. my 'accidental tromp admin text story tingler' was taken down for 'deepfakes that incorporate an individual’s image or likeness in sexualized contexts in which they did not partake.' i have asked which part of it was 'deepfaked' and no clarity yet

The wandering library is not lost, but seeking to be found. In tinderwoods or murkmeadows, upland glare or shadow towns. Facts and fables in its bellystacks insist soontime they will be read. So it wanders quoting from them. Its voice grown corvid, creaky legged. #whistpr #inkMine

…just as *every other survey and experiment* has found for decades. The “problem” with UBI is that greedy rich fucks want captive victims and UBI causes supplies of those to plummet.

big car wash run by fae for skywhales, all of them flying around the whale and spraying water on the moss and algae and weeds clinging to their flesh and digging into it, fertilising the helpful flowers and washing off dirt and dust

The Innkeeper's Song by Peter S. Beagle The mundane and the magical smashing together. An innkeeper, stable boy & young villagers, lives battered by mysterious guests - more than the three. Wizards and intricate histories, terrible magics seen through different eyes. Good. 🪐📚💙 #specfic #sff

All of these spoke to me, deeply.

I have moved so many times in my life. If I ended up a portal world, I'm not sure I could face going back (unless y'know, it was horrible). The idea of having to pretend it didn't happen, or all the disbelief.. crushing.

Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse Maggie is a Diné monster hunter in a post-apocalyptic land. Mostly outcast, self doubting, with several powerful forces against her. She accept Kai's help reluctantly, and there's a slow burn relationship there. Grim but not grimdark. 🪐📚💙 #specfic #sff

Ah so many choices here, but lets go with James Alan Gardner. He's got a great range.. Main character quotes to follow from the League of Peoples Universe 🧵

Character and setting. Then plot. I'm in a different headspace if i'm thinking about sentence structure.

Now that the first quarter of the year is over, it feels like a great time to remind everyone that if there's something science fiction/fantasy/horror related that you loved last year, you can let other people know about it via the Hugo Award Rec Collection. docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

Same but no vintage copies. Something I can spill tea on without guilt please.

If you can’t see it, this makes it clear that Murderbot doesn’t have nipples or a bellybutton.
