Good news if true. Your move @welshgovernment.bsky.social @natreswales.bsky.social...

An addendum to this is that it's really helpful to use the Pinpoint function if you see Choughs feeding. Foraging data is critical to identifying places that they value when new woodlands or developments are proposed. #BirdingWales

And so it begins. Bird surveys, 2025 breeding season edition. First date in Clocaenog, in search of Willow Tits. None on my 6km transect, but others did elicit responses on theirs. Lots of Crossbills and Siskins around, and a few Bramblings too. #BirdingWales

What if we told you vultures save us billions every year? 🦅 Vultures in Southern Africa provide $1.8B in ecosystem services, but populations have dropped 97% due to poisoning, belief-based use, and electrocution. Without them, ecosystems suffer. 💔 🔗 Read more: www.birdlife.org/news/2025/02...

The @northwaleslive.bsky.social BirdNotes feature @btocymru.bsky.social's Cudyll Cymru and calls on birdwatchers in #NorthWales to help survey Dartford Warblers and Nightjars. And with Swallow and Sand Martins in Wales, when will they reach us... #BirdingWales www.birdnotes.wales/blog/strong-...

Blue Sky, apricity and a good dose of Vitamin Sea. Several miles along the beach at Abererch without seeing a soul. Good to see several Ringed Plovers hanging around the area fenced off for their benefit, and to hear a Green Woodpecker yaffle, all too rare a sound in most of NW Wales. #BirdingWales

A biting wind for today's @webs-gsmp.bsky.social count on the Conwy estuary, #NorthWales. Duck numbers down on last month, but the highest count of Dunlin all winter and the lone Greenshank continues to hang out near the Marina. A few more Shelducks suggest Spring will come... #BirdingWales

Friday SCOOP: @vox.com has learned that USFWS has frozen its vast portfolio of international conservation grants. This is far beyond the scope of USAID-funded work and will inevitably harm wildlife internationally and in the US. @benjij.bsky.social has the story: www.vox.com/down-to-eart...

Menai Strait was shrouded in murk all day, unlike this pic from a couple of weeks ago. Flock of 20 Choughs still feeding on Ynys Seiriol, 27 Purple Sandpipers on the rocks and Eider count slowly increasing to 28 off Penmon this morning. @angbirdnews.bsky.social #BirdingWales

Definitely the best V-day posts I've seen this year. *As a sometime fact-checker, I approve - nay applaud - these messages...

The @Telegraph excels itself today with the claim that @NaturalEngland is ‘ideologically wedded to concept of conservation’. This is our job, & we do it as a matter of legal requirement. Would be odd for a conservation organisation to do anything else. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/02...
