Good explanation, and great example of why the conflation of different, bit related, technologies under the title "AI" is a mess - and that mess is to the benefit of bad actors.

This thread is an infinitely better explanation of Kobo's AI policy than the (really not very helpful) post the other day. The specificity is absolutely necessary.

Oh this was 100% intentional. In discussions of gen AI = bad, I've had people claiming videogames would be terrible without AI: what would Mario be without Goombas to stomp? Those are not remotely similar things.

The most prominent review of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning via #Google search is, well, something of a mystery. filmstories.co.uk/news/google-...

Britain has no idea - in terms of its self-image, not economists obviously - what economy it actually has One of my favourite facts to point out is: at over £8bn annually, the *videogames industry* is more than twice as valuable to the UK economy as fishing and steel combined.

I feel like most of my followers know this but because I see a lot of cis folks who have a specific blind spot for it: This includes the theme park. I don't care if you want Butterbeer or want to get a wand or are already there so why not just walk in. It's all Her. Everything with the name is Her.

This could so easily have been the European version of the Rice Truck Thread based upon this photo.

Made a version of this meme I wanted to see.

Lol, love this, but, if you hate spaceships in fantasy: okay! If you like them in fantasy: okay! There's a lot of room for fantasy to be all kinds of fantastical, and while some folks might not be in to it, there's loads who will be, so add that spaceship. Or don't. Have fun with it!

TERF queen has more than proven the money she gets from this franchise is used to fund hate and she’s proud of it If I catch any of my friends playing or supporting this we are no longer friends.

There's a fine line in this thread's replies between planes that are a threat, and planes that are a practical (dangerous) joke

OK, this is wild. In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them. It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*. What the HELL? 1/

Two men? But I heard sources saying there were tree fellers.

Literally if there is ANY ONE THING I wish I could teach people about LLMs, it's that it's not AI. It does not think. It does not use reasoning. It does not do analysis. It is incapable OF ALL THOSE THINGS. Arguing as if LLMs can is the dumbest shit imaginable.

Finally! Next, they could replace all Premium raid passes with remote ones. Seriously, I have endless "premium" raid passes that are 100% worthless, because there's nobody to raid with locally. If I run in to a soloable raid, it's maybe once per play session, so uses my free pass.

If these descriptions of the new power bear out, the power is significantly more expansive that previously hinted at And you'd be a fool for thinking this power will be useful for Gardaí to deal with the things Government are claiming it will help with www.rte.ie/news/2025/05...

I don't 'refuse to use' AI, I just don't use AI; in the same way that I don't shoplift, or plagiarise other people's books - it requires no effort of will, it's just not something I would think of doing

The next time someone tells you some dumb-ass tech thing is "inevitable" even if a company has spent tens of billions of dollars on it

"Your health records will be on the block chain." "Everyone will live in the Metaverse." "All art will be NFTs." "Generative AI will replace the need for humans." We need to reckon with the reality that the tech industry no longer creates things that anyone wants.

Checks out. I guess they don't follow these rules on the planet my games are set, but I do love this.

Who could have possibly predicted that TERFS would immediately pivot from transmisogyny to overt racism? Oh, wait. It was trans women. Trans women said this is exactly what would happen.

Him quitting should not be the end of this. He needs to be made an example of. His businesses need to be brought to ruin, he needs to be seen as a social pariah. It all needs to be taken from him.

It is risen!

“Pray tell. The Baron, what sort of gentleman is he?” “Well…”

So. The only way to stop that British hag is making Harry Potter as toxic a brand as Tesla is.

nothing gives me the ick more than to see people hang on to some transphobic cunts badly written book and fandom when there are way better fantasy books and fandoms out there.

Being human is the only requirement for human rights. There is no disability, diagnosis, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, age, criminal record, religion, country of origin, etc that disqualifies a person.

As I just had to do this (thanks again, UK Supreme Court), a reminder for everyone: Don't respond. Don't quote skeet. Don't engage. Just report, block, and move on when TERFs, bigots, racists, and other assorted shitheads harass you.

There's simply no ethical way to support Harry Potter in 2025. It's not possible. $0.20 from every dollar you give JK Rowling goes directly to physically harming a trans person and that's not a joke or an exaggeration.

Trans women are women, trans men are men. Fix your hearts or fucking die.

I've seen some people saying how "AI"-generated text is now as good as certain published authors, and honestly I think it's really brave for these folks to admit in public how poor their reading comprehension has to be

if there is literally one thing I wish I could impress on every person on earth, more even than "trans rights are human rights," it's "chatGPT is not AGI and never will be"

they finally did it. they invented a machine that can't run doom.

Oh, shit

Why does the Devil May Cry series have a soundtrack that goes so fucking hard? And why is it early 2000's hard? (Is it just because it's aimed at folks in their 40s? - if so, nailed it). I know fuck all about the games, btw.

If you think this can’t happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.
