🧐 Context on Elon Musk funding Brad Schimel to ensure a GOP majority in Wisconsin Supreme Court race

Again I am begging people in the media to note the legality of these actions in their headlines or blurbs. A post office is literally written into the constitution.

Awful: Numerous scientists and researchers were just fired at NIH's center for treating Alzheimer's, sources tell me. They fear Trump-Musk cuts could dramatically set back our ability to treat dementias. New reporting from me here: newrepublic.com/article/1917...

Tough situation. Maybe at some point we can amend the Constitution to provide a specific power Congress can use against an executive who’s unlawfully usurping its authority.

"Republican senators find themselves in an unusual position these days: begging Trump officials to release funds they themselves appropriated." Honestly, is there a more pathetic, contemptible collection of cowards & simps in the entire world?

USDA says it accidentally fired officials working on bird flu and is trying to rehire them In a statement, an Agriculture Department spokesperson told NBC News that officials are "working to swiftly rectify the situation." www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

When people say, "Why isn't Congress doing anything?" This is why. They support what is happening. Musk-Trump is doing their wet work for them.

👀 “[I]f there is an intent to punish perceived enemies, someone could erase your earnings record, making it impossible to collect the Social Security and Medicare benefits you have earned.” Powerful warning from @socialsecurityworks.org as Musk’s DOGE hacks reportedly are breaching Soc Sec Admin.

This is why you fight these cowards. The moment you stand up to them, they crumble. Homan has nothing. The Fourth Amendment is clear and I am well within my duties to educate people of their rights. He can threaten me with jail and call names all he wants. He’s got nothing else.

Wherein Elon says the quiet, corrupt part out loud: He intends to steal the private IRS data of his political enemies. How soon before he does the same to his economic competitors? Or you?

Thus far DOGE operatives have have full read access to govt payments system at Treasury (yr tax refunds, bank info, etc); full access to all CMS data (anything tied to your Medicare or Medicaid); and now they are seeking full access to everyone's tax returns. Feeling safer?

Russ Vought set up a CFPB snitch line where you can report any work by the agency still trying to do its job as legally mandated by Congress. It would be a real shame if this was flooded with false tips and wild goose chases... x.com/CFPB_tipline

I mean I think the obvious answer is that no, Americans have no idea what this means for their lives the "oh shit what have we done" turn we're all hoping for is simply not going to happen until the material ramifications become clear we are going to have to touch the stove

I’m with Duncan on this www.eschatonblog.com/2025/02/livi...

The House Republican budget resolution, the starting point for their giant Trump agenda bill, is out. Here's the best way of explaining it: they want to take food and medicine away from poor people and give that money to billionaires instead. prospect.org/politics/202...

This is absolutely insane. Musk’s DOGE crew just straight up *took* $80 million from an NYC bank account!

“How many more of our rights and freedoms did the Mayor give up to save his own skin?” -State Sen. Zellnor Myrie, a Democrat running to unseat New York City Mayor Eric Adams

Negotiations started. An important week. So many events and statements. We must keep calm and remember our goals The negotiations process will be taking place.Gradually, we will see the demands of all sides. Then, a search for consensus will follow. There will be lots and lots of rumors and anxiety.

the level of corruption unfolding right now will stagger future generations. it will stagger people a month from now.

This question & response was specific to abortion rights, but it applies to how any one individual can rightfully feel on a lot of matters right now. boltsmag.org/how-pregnanc...

"Bullies don’t tend to tell you what their motivations were afterward, and they tend to lie about their intentions even to themselves during." Can confirm -- also applies to grifters and scammers (relevant to this administration)

Eric Adams pretty much agreed to sidestep NY sanctuary protections, & make his city's immigrant residents more vulnerable to iCE, in pursuit of naked personal gain & a shield from corruption charges.

It's all illegal impoundment, it has been illegal, it continues to be illegal regardless of presumed authority. It violates the constitution, federal statute and Supreme Court precedent, and we are beginning to see it challenged as such. www.citizen.org/wp-content/u...

Billionaires are stealing from Missourians to give themselves tax breaks while Missouri farmers, school kids and hospitals are left in the red. Why aren't Missouri's elected officials standing up for Missourians? #MOSen #MOGov #MOLeg

If only there were another institution that could help everyday people understand the existential danger Trump's initiatives pose. One that might use its influence to shame legislators to meaningful action. A fourth estate, if you will

"Goodbye, Russia. Goodbye, Lenin," said Lithuania's President Gitanas Nausėda after the Baltic states disconnected from Russia's energy system. "This is a historic moment, marking the end of a long journey. We've achieved full energy independence. The era of pressure and blackmail is over."

yes it's true that Pete Hegseth could simply decline to spend the 150k on an emergency paint job and new drapes. but that would be silly given all the money we've saved medicating hiv positive babies

"...when Musk talks about destroying the *deep state, what he really means (among other things) is that he hopes to destroy any and all mechanisms of transparency and accountability that might restrain him."

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Naked corruption: AZ Dem @gallego.senate.gov, who has voted for Trump's nominees 9 times, is holding a retreat in CA w Marc Andreessen, whose crypto Super PAC helped elect Trump 👇 Gallego is ranking member on the Senate subcommittee overseeing the crypto industry. Matt Ygelesias will be speaking.

I won’t have as much confidence in flying going forward. Much more troubling than the recent plane crashes is this www.dailykos.com/stories/2025...

Hi all, I'm a WIRED journalist on the science desk. If you're a government scientist or federally funded researcher with info to share about the Trump transition, please feel free to contact me securely on Signal: emullin.06

Around 35% of SpaceX’s revenue comes directly from the federal govt. Less than 1% of NPR’s budget comes from the federal govt.

By the way, the new letter from Treasury actually admits that DOGE is being given access to "coded data" from Treasury's payment systems. This is supposed to be "read-only," but the admission itself raises a bunch of questions that Treasury still hasn't answered. We worked through those here:

This will be the news for the next number of years. Trump says something insane and completely unworkable. Then the White House walks some of it back. Nobody really knows what’s happening. And repeat.

The lies and the cover-up are vomit-inducing

It's like Kremlin christmas, every day now.

"A caller to WNYC’s The Brian Lehrer Show earlier in January told the host that his wife, who takes an express bus from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, to Lower Manhattan and back for work, has seen fewer delays every day. 'She’s getting home earlier every night,' he said. 'I mean, we love it.'"

Car brain at its worse. selfish, stupid, inconsiderate, dangerous, but everything in society has to bow down to the driver. @thewaroncars.bsky.social

prospect.org/justice/2025...

A really essential piece on the impoundments that are still happening -- and the real consequences for people who rely on federal funding. @ddayen.bsky.social has been killing it on the impoundments beat.

New: A group representing thousands of US doctors is suing the Trump administration over the sudden removal of public health data from government websites, arguing it creates a “dangerous gap” in information available to track disease and diagnose patients www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
