Labour has chosen nativism over growth. inews.co.uk/opinion/star...

Starmer's anti-immigrant speech today wasn't just a moral and political embarrassment. It was also an intellectual embarrassment. inews.co.uk/opinion/star...

Incredibly depressing day. I've spent my entire life being told by British governments how dreadful immigration is. New Labour did it. The Coalition. The Brexiters. Now Starmer. All of them accusing the ones who came before them of failing to clamp down. The same old vacant mean-spirited bollocks.

Toughening migration rules doesn’t challenge Reform. It validates them.

One again, this is simply not true. Non-UK origin employeea have (slightly) higher median earnings than UK-origin ones -and the gap has if anything widened (slightly) recently.

All of us.... every single last one of us... are descended from immigrants. And without it, this country would just be a bunch of uninhabited islands on the edge of the world. Everything that built this country... and everything it is... springs from that. And we should embrace it, not decry it.

WTF does this shower of a “government” think it’s doing?! Farage is laughing all n the way to No. 10 and the UK is on the slide towards fascism. www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...

In the spirit of @stephenkb.bsky.social ‘s image of public opinion on immigration as “I want a pony in my flat with no costs attached” public opinion on social care seems to be “I want a magical care machine that costs nothing”

Loads of young around currently. A pair of hobbies hunting over the summer walkway too.

The wife and I popped down to Slimbridge on Friday and were rewarded with good views of the nesting kingfishers #Birding #GlosBirds

It's a shame that international student numbers will be cut, because only 2% of voters want their post-study work limited and they bring £37bn to the country. But Britain has gone mad and willingly chosen poverty, so there it is, nothing to be done. www.russellgroup.ac.uk/news/new-pol...

Andor Series 2 is more than mere SciFi, more than just another StarWars. It’s a powerful, relevant narrative for our age: how fascism operates, and how we must oppose it.

Has anyone noticed how the people most vocal about celebrating victory over Nazis in 1945 are the ones most likely to have voted for actual Nazis only a few days previously?

Reform are preposterously beatable. This flag policy should be called what it is - a Ukraine flag ban - and be an intense focus of attack from other parties www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Take a bow Ollie Price. 👏👏👏🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️ #GoGlos #GlosCricket @gloscricket.bsky.social

As the UK and US head down the same path that led to the gas chambers, it's more important than ever to remember the human cost of far right rhetoric and the hate it engenders. We need a strong opposition to these ideas, not politicians like Starmer who legitimise them for short term political gain

You can't get a council house because no one is building them. Your wages are terrible because the billionaires profits have to be record. As above for the rents. And house prices are sky high because of all the landlords. None of it is to do with immigrants.

Not a great photo, but this was a life ✅ today: cirl bunting at Labrador Bay near Teignmouth. #birding

Are there people claiming benefits who shouldn't be? YES! King Charles, MP's, billionaires businesses like Amazon, Shell, BP... Lets crackdown on them.

Fantastic day for the Lib Dems in #cheltenham. Won 9 out of 10 seats, up from 6, and narrowly missed the 10th. There are now *zero* Conservatives elected in our town.

Regardless of party it is hard to think it is optimal to see mayors who are supposed to be champions for their area elected on a quarter of the vote. Govt would be wise for purposes of legitimacy to switch the system back from FPTP to a supplementary vote.

Brexit led to rise in hospital death rates because EU nurses were replaced by less qualified staff, academic study says - www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...

For for the West of England mayoralty More in Common have: Lab: 23% Con: 21% Reform: 18% Green: 18% LD: 15% It is genuinely absurd to have an election with that kind of spread decided by first past the post. Unjustifiable.

Fine, but can we also prosecute pedestrians (esp. dog walkers in my local park!) who injure cyclists by not respecting cycle lanes? www.theguardian.com/news/2025/ap...

Britain wakes up every day, aims the gun at its feet and pulls the trigger. Just a prolonged exercise in meanspiritedness and self-harm.

I’ve long said we should pay our MPs double what they currently get, but ban second jobs and pay them no expenses. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

If we’re going to make sure the future isn’t fascist, We need to have a grown up conversation about the political bind we’re in… That at the same time, we want to keep out Reform, but many feel compromised voting Labour to do it. FPTP sucks. We can navigate that, but must actually work together.

I always said Brexit would cost lives www.theguardian.com/science/2025...

If this country sides with Trump rather than returning to the European fold, we will become a vassal state, when we could have been a leading partner. Wake up UK! www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Everyone seems to have forgotten I attacked Ukraine every single day Trump was POTUS the 1st time. Every. Single. Day.
