He was hired in 2022 so the aid agency could get 'more bang for our buck' with its projects. He tried to reach out to help in the rebuilding of the agency. On Tuesday he tendered his resignation.

No matter how you slice it, US police officers are safer on the job and paid way more than other countries' police The critical question isn't more police vs. less police. It's why are US police paid so much while doing such little police work? From my paper w/ Mickey & Ziblatt

We live 3 blocks above the congestion zone, and let me tell you - congestion pricing has been an ABSOLUTE MIRACLE. Somehow, they never miss an opportunity to make the worst public policy choice.

If you want to know why Trump is able to rule like an autocrat, compare the Washington Post' coverage of the Saturday Night Massacre with Trump doing exactly the same thing

Truly one of the greats. He gave us the words and the permission to study inequality in a way that has shifted so many careers and in turn impacted so many lives. Christopher Jencks, a Shaper of Views on Economic Inequality, Dies at 88 www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/b...

This is too polite. Supporting these efforts bc of a chance ‘some good could come of it’ while ignoring the certain and current costs to fed workers, contractors, and lost knowledge is wicked. Of course it needs to be better. This ain’t how you do it and relatedly not what they’re trying to do.

I don't agree with the praise of @jasonfurman.bsky.social's FA piece. It is too much 20-20 hindsight (the house didn't burn, so that insurance premium was a mistake) and convenient setting aside of COVID (no reason 2020-4 shouldn't have been as good as 2015-9). www.foreignaffairs.com/united-state...

DEI hires are out. But when it comes to dealing with vodka-loving Putin, Pete Hegseth could be the perfect DUI hire.

It’s hard to overstate the contribution of IES to improving education research - and through it, education - in the United States. Its destruction for purely partisan ends is a national catastrophe, and Schneider of all people should know that.

If we’re renaming bodies of water based on petty grievances, I propose that this be renamed the Kendrick Lamar passage.

I can't find a free version, but I think I get/love the idea: the Canadians should retaliate against Trump tariffs with a CBAM. Maybe Canada could work with other countries on this approach. www.theglobeandmail.com/business/com...

Elon Musk, from the Oval Office with President Trump by his side, offered no evidence for his claims that federal agencies were corrupted by cheats supporting “fraudsters.” He defended his so called DOGE cost-cutting team, which has operated in secret and claims to have uncovered waste and fraud.

A coalition of news organizations said in a court filing that video exhibits from a Jan. 6 riot case had "disappeared" from a government platform that provided access to evidence used in court.

This study considers economic abuse/coercive control as a precursor to physical violence in relationships. Another chapter in a fascinating & consequential research agenda, from a dream team of economists! Check out my interview with Abi Adams for more. www.probablecausation.com/podcasts/epi...

It’s a red herring to discuss any apparent policy content associated with illegal changes to policy. The relevant discussion point is the illegality of the actions.

Where do I donate to support lawsuits against illegal government behavior?

They’ve called armed federal officers to the scene. We aren’t dangerous. We are here to represent our people. To defend public education. This is an authoritarian regime. You cannot block members of Congress from entering the Department of Education.

Happy #JobsDay! At 8:30 am ET, BLS delivers the most-important signals abt how economy is changing. Forecasts’ center: +169K jobs Unemployment rate (UR) stable at 4.1% Lots of complexity today, so I'm posting this earlier-than-usual with a longer-than-usual preamble.

We're holding the Senate floor all night to fight back against Trump’s nomination of Russell Vought. America saw how bad OMB’s illegal, incompetent funding freeze was. We want Americans to hear EVERY HOUR how bad the dangers are that he poses to their daily lives as OMB head.

How to avoid a trade war? "Mate, the easy way to avert a global trade war is to wake up and... do nothing."

It's time to end DEI and restore meritocracy. We will start by having six teen-aged children of Elon Musk's friends use glitchy AI tools to analyze federal expenditures.

TOMORROW: We’re rallying at the Treasury building with @moveon.org to stop Elon Musk’s hostile takeover and tell this unelected billionaire to get his hands off our money. We hope you can join us if you’re in the D.C. area.

Aaaaaaand a couple of hours later the Canadian call led to the same outcome. Tune back in for more tariff TV in thirty days.

Been reading Raskin’s Unthinkable, in which Jan 6 is a formative, searing experience Thrilled he is at USAID LEGALLY, as our elected rep, entering a govt building To stop those ILLEGALLY occupying and sabotaging our federal govt
